Chapter 17

The firefight inside the warehouse lasted less than three minutes. Emily’s highly trained, top-tier private security detail systematically dismantled the Russian syndicate with surgical precision. Volkov’s men, accustomed to intimidating desperate debtors, were entirely unprepared for a coordinated tactical assault funded by a billionaire tech magnate.

As the gunfire ceased, Silas’s men secured the perimeter, their flashlights cutting through the thick, acrid smoke.

Emily walked calmly into the center of the warehouse. The bright, tactical beams illuminated Volkov, who was clutching a severe gunshot wound in his shoulder, slumped against a crate. Michael was still tied to the steel pillar, whimpering in sheer terror, his expensive dress shoes ruined by the oily warehouse floor.

Emily stopped a few feet from Volkov, her piercing eyes staring down at the syndicate boss with absolute, sociopathic detachment.

"You brought mercenaries into my home," Emily stated softly, her American accent crisp and lethal. "You threatened my children."

"You... you are crazy," Volkov gasped, coughing blood. "You destroy my operation over a pathetic worm like him?" He gestured weakly toward Michael.

"I didn't destroy your operation for him," Emily corrected, her voice dropping into a tone of terrifying resolve. "I destroyed your operation because you forged a lien against my corporate headquarters. My empire belongs to me. No one touches it."

She turned her gaze slowly toward Michael.

Michael looked at her with wide, desperate hope. "Emily! You came! You saved me! I knew you wouldn't let them kill me!"

Emily stared at the man she had been married to for five years. She looked at his fair, rosy face, now bruised and pathetic. She felt absolutely nothing. The love had died the moment he told her daughters to eat garbage off the floor.

"I didn't come to save you, Michael," Emily whispered, stepping closer to him.

May you like

Michael’s smile vanished, replaced by a cold, suffocating dread. "Emily... what do you mean?"

"Silas," Emily called out, not taking her eyes off her husband. "Untie him."
