Chapter 16

The shipping warehouse on the docks was a massive, rusted structure that smelled of salt and decaying fish. Inside, the Russian syndicate boss, a brutal man named Volkov, sat on a wooden crate. He watched as his men tied a bruised, bleeding Michael Carter to a steel support beam.
"Call her again," Volkov ordered, his thick accent echoing in the cavernous space.
"She isn't answering, Boss," a lieutenant replied, holding a burner phone. "Her entire corporate network has gone completely dark."
Michael wept openly, the tears streaking through the blood and dirt on his fair, rosy face. "She'll answer! Just give her time! She won't let you kill me!"
"Your wife is a very cold woman, Michael," Volkov sneered, standing up and drawing a heavy combat knife. "She killed four of my best men without blinking. If she doesn't care about your life, perhaps she will care when I start mailing her pieces of you."
Volkov took a step toward Michael, raising the blade.
Before he could strike, the warehouse was plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness.
The heavy, industrial circuit breakers had been blown simultaneously. The syndicate men shouted in confusion, drawing their weapons and clicking on tactical flashlights, the erratic beams cutting through the dark.
"Perimeter breach!" a guard yelled from the catwalk above.
Suddenly, a deafening, concussive explosion shattered the massive rolling steel doors at the front of the warehouse. Smoke and fire billowed inward.
Emily’s elite security detail poured through the breach like a tidal wave of shadow and steel. They wore night-vision goggles and carried suppressed assault rifles, moving with terrifying, synchronized precision. They didn't shout warnings. They immediately laid down a devastating, aggressive barrage of suppressing fire.

The Russian mercenaries were caught completely off guard. The crossfire was brutal and efficient. Volkov's men fell by the dozens, neutralized before they could even identify the targets in the smoke-filled darkness.
Emily stepped through the shattered doorway, flanked by Silas. She wore a sleek, black tactical vest over her elegant clothes, completely unafraid of the chaos erupting around her. She was a CEO, a mother, and an apex predator, arriving to finish the war she had started.
