Chapter 10

While the Carter family was being forcefully removed from the estate under the watchful eyes of the local authorities, Emily sat in the serene, sun-drenched sunroom of her luxury penthouse. The bright colors of the city skyline stretched out before her, a sprawling testament to the world she had conquered.
Olivia and Megan were sitting on a plush rug nearby, happily building a massive tower out of colorful wooden blocks. They were dressed in soft, clean clothes, their trauma from the previous night slowly fading under the gentle, protective care of their mother.
Emily sipped a cup of hot green tea, her beautiful, movie-star features perfectly relaxed. Her phone buzzed quietly on the glass table. It was a message from Arthur.
The Carters have vacated the property. Locks are being changed now. Divorce filings have been accepted by the court.
Emily let out a slow, contented breath. The heavy, toxic weight that had burdened her for five years was finally gone. She was free. She had protected her daughters, dismantled her abusers, and reclaimed her empire in a single, flawless stroke.
However, the world of high finance and elite power is rarely left in a vacuum.
Her phone buzzed again, this time with a different, specialized ringtone. Emily’s eyes narrowed slightly as she picked up the device. It was a secure, encrypted line she rarely used.
"Speak," Emily said, her American accent crisp and guarded.
"Ms. Carter," a low, gravelly voice echoed through the speaker. It was not Arthur. It was a man named Silas, a fixer who operated in the darker, more dangerous peripheries of her corporate empire. "I apologize for the intrusion, but we have a situation that requires your immediate attention."
"What is it, Silas?" Emily asked, her maternal warmth instantly shifting back into the cold, calculating mindset of a CEO.
"It's about Michael's personal debts, ma'am," Silas explained. "It seems your husband was not entirely truthful about his financial standing prior to your marriage. He wasn't just leaching off your accounts. He borrowed a significant amount of money from some very unpleasant people in the unregulated private sector."
Emily’s grip on the phone tightened. "How much?"
"Ten million dollars," Silas replied grimly. "And they are not the kind of people who care about divorce papers or frozen accounts. They operate on blood and reputation. Now that Michael has been stripped of your protection, they are looking for him."
"Let them find him," Emily stated coldly. "He is no longer my problem."
"That’s the issue, Ms. Carter," Silas paused, the tension heavy over the line. "Michael knew he couldn't pay them back. So, he secured the loan using collateral."
"What collateral?" Emily demanded, a spike of pure adrenaline shooting into her veins.
"He forged your signature, Emily," Silas revealed. "He used the corporate headquarters and your personal penthouse as the backing for the loan. The people he owes... they aren't coming for Michael anymore. They are coming to collect your properties."

Emily stood up slowly, her eyes locking onto her two innocent daughters playing on the rug. The bright, cinematic light of the penthouse suddenly felt less like a sanctuary and more like a target. The war with the Carter family was over, but Michael’s cowardice had just dragged her into an entirely new, infinitely more dangerous battlefield.
"Silas," Emily whispered, her voice a lethal, terrifying promise. "Prepare the security teams. All of them."
