Chapter 41

The peace that settled over the Rizzano estate was absolute, a heavily fortified tranquility paid for in blood and iron. The destruction of Sterling Vance had sent a chilling, unmistakable message across the global underworld and the corporate elite alike: Alessandro Rizzano was an untouchable, apocalyptic force. The sprawling mansion was bathed in bright, cinematic sunlight, completely devoid of any dull, yellow tint. The vivid colors of the manicured lawns and the pristine white marble floors gleamed flawlessly.
Alessandro sat behind the heavy mahogany desk in his private study, the crisp light highlighting his handsome, movie-star features. At thirty-five, he was at the zenith of his power. His tailored dark suit jacket was draped over his chair, his unbuttoned dress shirt exposing the refined, negative-space tattoos on his chest. He was reviewing the final integration reports for the newly acquired Caribbean offshore accounts, a lucrative spoil of the recent war.
"The funds have been completely laundered and integrated into our primary holding company, Boss," Dante reported, his American accent crisp and professional. The underboss stood near the window, his posture relaxed but vigilant. "The syndicate's net worth has effectively doubled."
"Power without capital is merely a threat, Dante," Alessandro murmured, his deep, raspy voice utilizing terrifying, controlled pauses. "Capital without power... is a target. We now possess an overwhelming abundance of both."
A soft, polite knock echoed from the study doors.
"Enter," Alessandro commanded smoothly.

Rosalie stepped into the room. She wore an elegant, understated day dress, her fair, rosy cheeks slightly flushed. She had completely transitioned from a maid to the esteemed head of Livia's household.
"Mr. Rizzano," Rosalie said, offering a respectful nod. "The new private tutors have arrived for their final interviews."
