Chapter 36

Alessandro stared down at the trembling technician. The information was useless. The Architect was operating from the shadows, using proxies and untraceable digital currency. It was a cowardly, modern warfare tactic that Alessandro despised.

"You traded the security of my home for a duffel bag of cash," Alessandro murmured softly.

"I'll give it back! I'll disappear!" Elias pleaded.

"You will disappear," Alessandro agreed. He turned his back on the traitor and began walking back toward the tunnel exit.

He didn't look back as Dante raised his suppressed weapon. The sharp, brief crack of the gunshot echoed through the maintenance tunnel, finalizing the execution of the man who had breached the inner sanctum.

Alessandro returned to the estate just before dawn. The cinematic, bright morning light was beginning to break over the horizon, casting a pristine glow over the sprawling mansion. He walked directly to the secure panic suite.

The heavy steel doors hissed open. Livia was asleep on the plush bed, entirely unaware of the blood that had been spilled to avenge the intrusion into her room. Rosalie sat vigil in a chair nearby, her eyes heavy with exhaustion but alert.

"The traitor has been dealt with," Alessandro whispered, stepping into the room and looking down at his daughter.

"And the man who hired him?" Rosalie asked softly.

"He is a coward hiding behind screens," Alessandro replied, his jaw locking tight. "But I will find him. I will tear down the internet if I have to."
