Chapter 14

The sudden, brutal decapitation of the southern family sent a shockwave of terror through the remaining guests. The bright, vivid colors of the gala felt entirely surreal against the dark reality of the violence unfolding. The bodyguards hauled Camille's screaming, struggling father out of the dining room, dragging him away to an unspeakable fate.
Camille watched her father being dragged away, realizing that her aristocratic shield had just been utterly destroyed. She was completely alone, kneeling at the feet of an apex predator.
"Damian, I'll do anything!" Camille sobbed, clutching at the legs of his tailored trousers. "I'll leave the country! I'll never come back!"
Damian looked down at her, his expression entirely devoid of human empathy. He reached down and grabbed the heavy diamond necklace resting against her collarbone. With a sharp, violent yank, he tore the expensive jewelry from her neck, breaking the clasp. The diamonds scattered across the pristine floor like shards of ice.
"Take it off," Damian commanded, pointing to the engagement ring on her finger.
Trembling violently, Camille pulled the massive ring off and dropped it onto the mahogany table.
"You wanted to teach my son about discipline," Damian whispered, crouching down so his face was level with hers. The loose strands of wavy hair falling over his forehead framed a face carved in stone. "You wanted to teach him about the dark. I am going to give you a masterclass."
He stood up, adjusting the cuffs of his crisp white shirt.

"Marcus. Take her to the old wine cellar," Damian ordered coldly. "Weld the heavy steel door shut. Cut the power. She does not get light. She does not get sound. She does not get out."
Camille shrieked, a raw, primal sound of absolute terror, as two massive guards hauled her to her feet and dragged her out of the brilliant, cinematic lighting of the dining hall, casting her permanently into the darkness she had forced upon his child.
