Chapter 1

The sprawling estate of the Whitmore family was bathed in brilliant, vivid colors, a testament to wealth and power that required no introduction. Inside the master suite, the lighting was a masterpiece of natural cinematic design. Gentle, luxurious chandelier lighting cascaded from the vaulted ceilings, casting a pristine, neutral glow that completely avoided any heavy, muddy yellow cast. It highlighted the flawless, fair, and rosy skin of the man standing before the floor-to-ceiling mirror. Damian Whitmore was forty-two years old, a widowed Mafia boss, and currently adjusting the cuffs of his tailored dark three-piece suit. He was handsome as a movie star, radiating a deeply masculine and distinctly authoritative aura. His thick, slightly wavy dark hair was naturally slicked back, but a few loose strands fell stubbornly over his forehead, lending him a charming, almost romantic look that sharply contrasted with his lethal reputation.

His angular face featured a high-bridged nose and a sharply defined jawline, shadowed by extremely short, neatly trimmed stubble. However, it was his eyes that truly commanded the room—cold, sharp, and intensely intimidating. As he adjusted his cuffs, the crisp white fabric of his dress shirt shifted, revealing artistic tattoos on his hands and fingers. The designs were refined and sharp, utilizing enough negative space so they didn't look too dense. Just above his collar, moderately placed neck tattoos peeked out, creating an attractive, slightly dangerous look without covering his entire neck and chest.

A soft knock echoed through the heavy oak door.

"Enter," Damian said. His voice was a low, resonant baritone. He spoke slowly, with controlled pauses between his words, keeping his volume low even when issuing commands. Every sentence sounded measured, cold, and inherently dangerous.

His lead capo, Marcus, stepped into the room. Like all the men in Damian's inner circle, Marcus was a white American with a crisp American accent, his fair skin flushed slightly from the brisk evening air outside.

"The perimeter is secure, Boss," Marcus reported, standing respectfully near the doorway. "The guests are beginning to arrive in the main dining hall. The Valenti and Rossi families have already taken their seats."

"Good," Damian murmured, turning slowly to face his subordinate. He checked his luxury wristwatch, the polished metal gleaming in the chandelier's light. "Ensure the security detail... remains entirely invisible. This is an engagement dinner... not a war council. We project... absolute stability."

"Understood, Mr. Whitmore," Marcus nodded firmly. "And what about the shipment at the eastern docks? We received word that the union leaders are asking for a higher percentage."

Damian’s cold eyes narrowed imperceptibly. He slowly walked toward a side table, picking up his heavy family signet ring and sliding it onto his tattooed finger.

"They ask... because they believe... my upcoming marriage has made me soft," Damian stated, his voice dropping to a terrifyingly quiet whisper. "Send a team... tomorrow morning. Remind them... that my patience... is not infinite."

"Consider it done," Marcus replied, a grim understanding passing between them.

The heavy oak door swung open wider, and Camille Sterling stepped into the master suite. At thirty years old, Damian’s fiancée was undeniably striking. Her fair, rosy skin was flawless, accentuated by an expensive evening gown that draped elegantly over her slender frame. A heavy diamond necklace rested against her collarbone, matching the massive engagement ring on her left hand.

"Damian, darling," Camille purred, her American accent dripping with practiced sweetness. She glided across the room, dismissing Marcus with a fleeting, haughty glance. "The guests are waiting. Are you nearly ready?"

"I am... ready," Damian answered, his expression remaining an impenetrable mask as she wrapped her arms around his waist.

"It’s going to be a perfect night," Camille smiled, looking up at his handsome face. "Just you, me, and the families recognizing our union. A flawless beginning to our new life."

Damian looked down at her, his sharp eyes betraying no emotion. "A flawless beginning... requires a flawless foundation, Camille. See that you... play your part."
