Chapter 11

The interior of the sleek, black SUV felt suddenly suffocating. Claire lowered the encrypted phone, her fair, rosy skin entirely drained of color. The bright, cinematic city lights flashing past the tinted windows offered no comfort. Marcus, watching her from the rearview mirror, instantly recognized the catastrophic shift in her demeanor. The cold, triumphant billionaire CEO had vanished, replaced by an apex predator sensing a lethal threat to her young.

"Reroute the convoy," Claire commanded, her American accent dropping into a freezing, absolute register. "We are not going to the primary residence. Take us to the obsidian high-rise. Initiate full tactical lockdown."

"Boss?" Marcus asked, his broad shoulders tensing beneath his tailored suit. "What happened?"

"A ghost just called me," Claire whispered, her eyes fixed on the sleeping form of four-year-old Evan beside her. "He knows about the liquidation. He knows about Evan."

Marcus didn't ask further questions. He tapped his earpiece, barking harsh, synchronized orders to the trailing security vehicles. The convoy aggressively changed lanes, speeding toward the impenetrable fortress in the sky. Claire checked the sleeping child, her jaw locking into stone. She had dismantled the Bennett family to protect him, but the man coming for them now was the devil who had taught her how to strike.
