Chapter 35

Senator Hayes stared at the small device, his breath hitching in his throat. He pulled a laptop from his briefcase and inserted the drive. The screen illuminated his terrified, sweating face. Inside the drive were hundreds of highly classified offshore bank ledgers, explicit photographs, and recorded conversations proving the Senator had accepted millions in bribes from human trafficking cartels. "Evelyn found those ledgers years ago," Vincent murmured, his voice a freezing void. "Before my sister locked her away. She was brilliant enough to secure the data. I simply decrypted it." Hayes collapsed backward onto the leather sofa, entirely broken. The political shield he had hidden behind was utterly destroyed. "If you leak this to the press, I will go to federal prison for the rest of my life," Hayes wept, his aristocratic arrogance completely shattered. "You will go to prison," Vincent agreed smoothly, pacing slowly with his hands clasped behind his back. "Unless you unfreeze my ports by midnight. You will resign from your office tomorrow morning, citing severe health issues. If you ever breathe my name again, the files go to the FBI. Do we have an understanding, Senator?"
