Chapter 27

The old Caruso estate sat in eerie, complete darkness. The power had been entirely severed weeks ago. Deep beneath the luxurious mahogany floors, in the pitch-black, soundproof holding cells, Helena and Marco were broken beyond recognition. They had survived on the absolute minimum rations, abandoned to the suffocating silence of the very tomb they had designed for Evelyn. Vincent did not visit them. He did not offer them the mercy of a quick execution. Instead, he stood on a distant, elevated ridge overlooking the sprawling property, bathed in the bright, crisp light of the early morning sun. Silas stood respectfully beside him, holding an encrypted detonation tablet. "The structural charges are placed on the foundation, Boss," Silas reported, his American accent devoid of any pity. "The subterranean levels will collapse completely. It will be an absolute, permanent burial." Vincent looked at the house where his father was murdered, where his wife was tortured, and where his heart had been shattered. "They wanted a tomb," Vincent whispered, his cold, intimidating eyes narrowing into lethal slits. "Give it to them." Silas engaged the firing sequence. A deafening, catastrophic roar echoed across the valley as massive plumes of smoke and dust erupted from the foundation. The grand mansion folded inward, collapsing upon itself in a violent, devastating implosion, sealing the traitors in the dark forever.
