Chapter 5

The catastrophic destruction of the silver service station left the entire ballroom in a state of breathless shock. The bright, cinematic lighting illuminated the carnage perfectly—the scattered silver domes, the ruined food, and the unconscious, bleeding form of Adrian Moretti lying in the wreckage.
Megan Moretti stood frozen, her eyes wide with unadulterated terror as she stared at her broken husband. The arrogant, untouchable facade she had worn all evening shattered completely. But instead of retreating, her panic mutated into a desperate, hysterical, and entirely irrational fury.
Megan’s frantic eyes darted across the room, desperately looking for the little girl she blamed for this humiliation, forgetting entirely that Emma had already been carried away. Her mind, fractured by the sudden violence, fixated on retaliation.
"Where is she?!" Megan shrieked, her American accent pitching into a shrill, manic octave. "I am going to teach that little brat a lesson she will never forget!"
Megan lunged forward, her luxurious formal gown dragging heavily across the carpet. She reached blindly toward the space where Emma had been standing minutes ago, her manicured hands extended like claws.
Laura intercepted her with terrifying, effortless speed.
Before Megan could take three steps, Laura’s hand shot out. She caught Megan’s wrist in a vise-like grip, halting the older woman's forward momentum instantly. The heavy pearl jewelry rattled violently against Megan's collarbone as she gasped in pain.
"Let go of me!" Megan screamed, thrashing wildly against the unyielding grip of the Mafia Boss.
Laura did not say a word. She simply pulled her left arm back and delivered one thunderous, devastating open-handed slap directly across Megan’s face.
The impact was brutally loud, a sharp, echoing crack that resonated off the high ceilings.
The immense physical force of the slap sent Megan spinning violently backward. She lost her footing in her designer heels, her arms flailing helplessly as she was thrown backward across the room.
Megan hurtled directly into the massive, freestanding family-history display.
The collision was spectacular. The towering structure, meant to symbolize the unbreakable legacy of the Moretti bloodline, folded inward under the heavy impact of her body. Dozens of lightweight acrylic photo frames tumbled from their mounts, raining down around her in a cascade of shattered plastic and torn canvas. Beautifully engraved brass name plaques scattered wildly across the plush carpet. Several large, framed family photographs depicting past patriarchs landed directly across Megan’s luxurious gown as she dropped heavily beneath the collapsed display.
She hit the floor in a tangled heap of silk, pearls, and broken acrylic. She gasped for air, clutching her rapidly bruising cheek, entirely pinned beneath the ruined history of the family she had claimed to protect.
The ballroom fell completely silent.

No dialogue was spoken. The music had stopped long ago. The only sounds in the massive, brilliantly lit room were the soft, terrified whimpers of Megan struggling beneath the fallen frames, and the heavy, ragged breathing of the stunned guests.
Laura stood in the center of the destruction, her tailored black suit immaculate, her posture radiating absolute, terrifying dominance. She had single-handedly physically dismantled two senior members of the syndicate in less than thirty seconds. She was a vision of elegant, lethal power, a young woman who had just permanently rewritten the hierarchy of her criminal empire. The bright video colors of the room seemed to sharpen, focusing entirely on the undisputed queen of the organization.
