Chapter 1

The private Mafia-family banquet was a masterclass in untouchable wealth and raw, unbridled power. Bright video colors saturated the sprawling ballroom, illuminated by natural, cinematic lighting that poured through the massive skylights. There was no yellow tint to muddy the crisp, pristine atmosphere; every crystal chandelier and polished marble tile reflected a pure, brilliant white. The room buzzed with the low, commanding voices of white American adults, their sharp American accents cutting through the ambient hum of privilege. Capos, lieutenants, and elite bodyguards stood in strategic clusters, their fair, rosy skin glowing under the immaculate lighting. At the center of this dangerous ecosystem was Laura Moretti. At only twenty-eight years old, she was the undisputed head of the organization. Powerful, elegant, and intimidating, she radiated the kind of authority that made hardened criminals lower their eyes. She wore a tailored black three-piece formal suit that fit her flawlessly, a heavy family signet ring resting on her finger, and diamond earrings that caught the light with her every movement. An expensive wristwatch peeked out from her impeccably pressed cuff, and her sharp heels clicked rhythmically as she conversed with a group of her top-tier capos.
"The eastern docks are fully secured, Laura," murmured a broad-shouldered capo named Thomas, his American accent respectful and hushed. "But we are still getting pushback from the older generation. They don't like taking orders from someone they still view as a junior member of the family."
"They will learn to adapt, Thomas, or they will find themselves entirely obsolete," Laura replied, her voice smooth but lined with steel. "This organization relies on forward momentum. Stagnation is death. I expect you to make that explicitly clear to anyone who questions our new operational directives."
"I will handle it personally, Boss," Thomas nodded, taking a respectful step back. "Your leadership has already increased our revenue by thirty percent. The loyalists see that. It is only a matter of time before the dissenters fall in line."
Across the vast ballroom, simmering with bitter resentment, stood Megan Moretti. At forty-four years old, Laura’s older sister-in-law was a woman consumed by jealousy. Megan wore a luxurious, floor-length formal gown, draped in heavy pearl jewelry and glittering rings. Her high heels dug into the plush carpet as she glared at the young woman who had usurped the throne she felt was rightfully hers. Beside her stood her husband, Adrian Moretti, forty-two years old and a high-ranking Mafia-family associate. Adrian wore an incredibly expensive tailored suit, a luxury wristwatch, and polished leather shoes that gleamed in the cinematic light.
"Look at her," Megan sneered, her fair, rosy complexion flushing with a dark, venomous anger. "She parades around in that suit as if she built this empire herself. She is nothing but a child playing dress-up in our father’s legacy."
"Keep your voice down, Megan," Adrian warned, though his own American accent betrayed a deep-seated bitterness. "Laura has the loyalty of the primary capos. If you challenge her openly tonight, she will not hesitate to humiliate us. We have to be strategic. We have to wait for her to make a critical mistake."

"She already made her mistake," Megan replied coldly, her eyes drifting away from Laura and landing on a tiny figure near the main family table. "She brought that pathetic little stray into our home and expects us to treat it like royal blood."
Megan was looking at Emma Moretti. The three-year-old girl, Laura’s adopted daughter, was a vision of innocence in the den of wolves. Emma wore an elegant child’s banquet dress, a soft white cardigan, thick tights, and delicate flats. Her fair, rosy cheeks were flushed with excitement as she gazed at the towering silver service station nearby. Unaware of the hatred burning in her aunt's eyes, Emma took a hesitant step toward the main family table, reaching out with a small, trembling hand toward her designated dinner plate. Megan’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, her pearl necklace clicking as she suddenly marched across the carpeted floor, leaving her husband behind.
