Chapter 6

The ringing silence in the music room was broken only by the soft, pathetic whimpers coming from Camille as she knelt among the scattered flowers and broken instrument cases. The bright, natural sunlight poured over the wreckage, highlighting the stark contrast between the elegant, pristine environment and the absolute devastation that Adrian had just unleashed. The white American bodyguards stood frozen by the doorway, their rosy faces pale as they realized the Boss had been pushed past the point of no return.

Adrian did not move toward Camille. He slowly reached behind his back, his heavily tattooed hand gently resting on Emma’s small shoulder, offering her a silent reassurance of complete, unshakeable safety.

Emma, still wrapped tightly in her father's tailored suit jacket, slowly peeked out from behind his leg. Her fair, rosy cheeks were stained with tears, and she was cradling her reddened fingers against her chest. She looked at the ruined floral displays, then at the terrified woman on the floor.

The three-year-old girl sniffled, her bravery returning now that she was shielded by her father’s immense, protective presence. She slowly raised her uninjured hand. Her small finger extended, pointing directly past the weeping Camille, straight toward the doorway.

She wasn't pointing at her abuser. She was pointing at Miles Caine.

"She called him her husband," Emma stated. Her tiny voice trembled through her tears, but her crisp American accent cut through the silence of the room with devastating, apocalyptic clarity. "When they were kissing in the hallway... she said he was her real husband."

The words dropped into the bright, cinematic room like an activated grenade.

Camille’s face completely lost its composure. The arrogant, aristocratic mask she wore shattered entirely, leaving behind a portrait of raw, unadulterated terror. All the color drained from her fair skin, turning her a sickly, translucent white. She gasped for air, her eyes darting wildly between the little girl, Adrian, and the bodyguard standing by the door.

Miles froze, his heart stopping in his chest. The professional, stoic facade of the seasoned bodyguard evaporated. He took a hesitant, panicked step backward, his hand instinctively dropping away from his earpiece, realizing with horrifying certainty that the game was entirely over.

Adrian slowly turned his head. His dark, wavy hair shifted slightly, the loose strands brushing his forehead. He looked at his daughter, absorbing the truth of her words, and then he slowly, deliberately raised his cold, intimidating eyes to look at the bodyguard he had trusted with his life.

"Is that... so," Adrian whispered.

He spoke so slowly, keeping his volume so incredibly low, that the words were barely a vibration in the air. Yet, the measured, cold, and dangerous delivery carried the weight of an absolute death sentence. The puzzle was complete. It wasn't just an affair; it was a profound, deeply orchestrated betrayal occurring right under the roof of a Mafia Boss.
