Chapter 19

"Yes! I played in the garden with Maria!" Emma beamed, showing him a slightly crumpled, colorful drawing of a flower. "I made this for you!"

"It is a masterpiece," Adrian declared softly, taking the drawing with immense care and placing it deliberately on top of the high-stakes financial ledgers on his desk. "I will frame it in my office."

Dante smiled faintly, a rare expression of warmth from the hardened underboss, before quietly excusing himself from the room to give the Boss privacy with his daughter.

Adrian looked at Emma, feeling a profound, unshakeable sense of completion. He had navigated a treacherous world of violence, betrayal, and immense power, but the only thing that truly mattered was the fragile life sitting on his lap. He had burned an entire city to the ground to ensure she would never cry in pain again.

"Are you happy here, Emma?" Adrian asked gently, stroking her soft hair.

"I'm happy when you're here, Daddy," Emma replied innocently, wrapping her tiny arms around his neck.

"I will always be here," Adrian promised, his deep, raspy voice a vow of absolute, eternal protection.

He had constructed a fortress of blood and iron, insulating her completely from the monsters that lurked in the dark. He knew the shadow war of the syndicates would never truly end; there would always be ambitious men and treacherous rivals seeking to claim his throne. But they would face an apex predator willing to commit unspeakable violence to defend his home.
