Chapter 5

The collective gasp from the wealthy American guests sucked the air out of the bright, vividly colored ballroom. Catherine Hale took a terrified step forward, but the bodyguards held her back. To strike a reigning Mafia Boss in his own territory was an act of profound, suicidal madness.
Adrian’s head snapped to the side from the impact of the blow. The sheer, masculine force behind Richard’s punch was substantial, fueled by decades of street violence.
However, Adrian did not fall. He did not even stumble. He slowly turned his head back to center. The loose strands of his wavy hair shifted across his forehead. His fair, rosy skin bore a rapidly reddening mark along his sharply defined jawline, but his expression remained a mask of terrifying, unnatural calm.
"You disrespect the Ashford name!" Richard bellowed, his chest heaving under his formal three-piece suit. Blinded by his wounded pride and adrenaline, the older capo believed he had the upper hand. "We brought you the eastern shipping routes! We brought you millions in revenue! You owe us this wedding, Adrian!"
"I owe you... nothing," Adrian whispered. His voice was dead and cold, a measured, dangerous hum that vibrated through the floorboards.
"I will beat the respect into you if I have to!" Richard roared, misinterpreting Adrian's calm for hesitation.
Richard attacked again. He pulled his right arm back, stepping heavily into a second, massive swing aimed directly at Adrian’s jaw, fully intending to knock the younger Boss to the marble floor.
The cinematic, natural lighting caught the heavy gold signet ring on Adrian’s hand as he finally moved.
He didn't block the punch. Adrian moved with blinding, explosive speed, a terrifying display of raw, refined power. He stepped into the attack, reaching out and catching Richard’s incoming arm mid-strike. His grip clamped around the older man’s forearm like an industrial vise, completely arresting his momentum.
Richard’s eyes widened in sudden, absolute shock as his arm was immobilized.
Without a fraction of a second of hesitation, Adrian turned his hips, flowing smoothly through the captured strike. Utilizing his entire body weight, Adrian drove one devastating, explosive counterpunch straight across Richard Ashford’s face.
The impact was catastrophic. The sound of breaking cartilage echoed like a gunshot in the pristine hall.
The immense kinetic force lifted the fifty-eight-year-old capo completely off his polished shoes. Richard spun violently backward, his arms flailing uselessly in the air as he lost all control of his body. He hurtled backward across the white-flower aisle, flying directly toward the decorative wooden seating-chart frame erected near the entrance.
Richard crashed into the heavy wooden structure with the force of a wrecking ball.
The frame folded sideways instantly, buckling under the massive impact. The large, pristine display shattered. Hundreds of elegant, calligraphed name cards exploded across the polished floor like a snowstorm. Ornate ribbon baskets placed near the display were violently overturned, scattering silk ribbons and gift tags chaotically through the pristine white aisle.

Richard crashed entirely through the decorative panels, hitting the floor in a tangled, groaning heap of splintered wood and scattered paper. He lay motionless beneath the broken decorative frame, blood pouring from his shattered nose, his expensive suit ruined.
There was no dialogue. The overwhelming, brutal reality of the violence silenced every single person in the room. Adrian stood perfectly still, his breathing steady, adjusting the cuffs of his tailored tuxedo. The message was undeniable: the alliance was dead.
