Chapter 17

Damon entered the grand foyer of the Sutton mansion. The remaining private security guards immediately dropped their weapons, raising their hands in unconditional surrender. Damon ignored them, walking directly into the living room where the Sutton family was gathered.
Judge Sutton stood trembling near the fireplace, his rosy skin pale and sweating. Brielle cowered on the sofa, refusing to look at the man she had once planned to marry.
"Damon," Judge Sutton stammered, attempting to muster a shred of dignity. "You have won. The evidence is public. I will resign my seat today. I will surrender to the federal authorities. Just let my family leave the city."
Damon stopped in the center of the room. The bright, cinematic lighting cast sharp shadows across his handsome, bearded face. He looked at the politician who had ordered a mercenary strike on his home.
"You don't get to surrender to the authorities, Judge," Damon said, his American accent crisp and lethal. "You sent armed men to a house where my three-year-old son was sleeping. You do not get the luxury of a courtroom."
"You can't kill a federal judge!" Sutton's eldest son yelled, stepping forward defensively.
Two massive Roswell bodyguards instantly flanked the son, slamming him violently against the wall and pressing the barrels of their suppressed weapons against his skull. The room fell dead silent.
"I am not going to kill him," Damon stated calmly, his dark eyes locking onto the Judge. "Death is too simple. Death makes martyrs."

Damon gestured to Marcus, who stepped forward carrying a thick, leather-bound folder.
"You are going to sign a full confession," Damon explained, his voice a low, mesmerizing hum. "You will detail every bribe you ever took, every rival you blackmailed, and the exact specifics of the mercenary contract you authorized against me. And then, you are going to transfer the entirety of your family's accumulated wealth—every trust, every offshore account, every real estate holding—into a blind charitable trust controlled by my syndicate."
