Chapter 6

The sheer audacity of Robert’s lie—the cold, clinical dismissal of a four-year-old’s battered face as a mere "fall"—snapped the final, fraying thread of Daniel’s patience. The rigid, terrified stiffening of Lily’s body against his chest had already communicated a truth far darker than Rebecca’s initial sneer.

Daniel did not argue. He did not raise his voice to debate the physics of a handprint. The transition from a restrained father to an absolute, unhinged force of violence was instantaneous.

With blinding, predatory speed, Daniel closed the short distance between himself and his father. He moved so fast that Robert didn't even have time to blink, let alone step back. Without shifting his protective hold on Lily, Daniel’s right hand shot forward like a striking viper. He snatched the heavy, condensation-slicked beer glass directly out of Robert’s relaxed grip.

Robert let out a startled, confused grunt, his fingers suddenly grasping empty air.

Before the older man could process the theft, Daniel pivoted his shoulder and hurled the glass straight at the pristine, white wall just inches from Robert's head.

The impact was explosive. The heavy pint glass shattered into a thousand glittering pieces, the bright, vivid room amplifying the deafening crash. A wave of amber beer and razor-sharp shrapnel erupted outward in a violent, kinetic burst. The liquid splashed across the immaculate paint, leaving a dark, ugly stain that ruined the perfect aesthetic of the living room, while shards of glass rained down onto the hardwood floor like crystalline shrapnel.

The sudden, deafening violence shattered Robert’s arrogant facade completely. The patriarchal dominance evaporated in a split second, replaced by pure, instinctive cowardice. Robert let out a high-pitched yell, shrinking away from the wall. He threw both of his hands over his head, crossing his arms frantically to shield his fair, rosy face and eyes from the flying shards of glass and the spray of alcohol.

He cowered there, a pathetic, trembling figure in his checked shirt, his knees buckled and his shoulders hunched. The imposing father figure was entirely dismantled in front of the horrified guests.

Daniel stood over him, breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling as he looked down at the man who had just tried to gaslight him. The air in the room was thick with the smell of spilled beer and the metallic tang of pure fear. The guests were completely paralyzed, trapped in a brightly lit nightmare, watching a man with the aura of a mafia enforcer systematically dismantle his own bloodline. The silence that followed the crash was deafening, waiting to be filled.
