Chapter 18

The relocation was brutal and efficient. Robert, Linda, and Rebecca were stripped of their expensive clothing and jewelry, forced into unmarked vans by Marcus’s tactical team, and driven out of the city under the cover of darkness. The pristine, sunlit suburban estate was left empty, a monument to a family that had been systematically erased from existence.

Daniel stood in the master bedroom of his fortified compound, watching the security feeds on his encrypted tablet. He watched the vans disappear onto the highway, feeling a profound, heavy satisfaction settling into his bones. The reckoning was complete. The monsters were gone.

He walked down the hall to Lily's room. The four-year-old girl was sleeping peacefully, the red handprint on her cheek finally fading into a faint, yellowish bruise. Her breathing was steady and calm, completely untouched by the violence that had secured her safety.

Daniel sat on the edge of her bed, his large hand gently stroking her soft hair. He had burned his own family to the ground to protect her, and he would do it a thousand times over.

"I've got you, Lily," Daniel whispered, his voice thick with fierce, protective love. "I will always protect you."

The next morning, Daniel brought Lily to the expansive, sunlit living room of the compound. He had ordered Marcus to fill the room with bright, colorful toys and giant plush bears, creating a perfect, safe haven for his daughter.

Lily ran across the room, laughing happily as she dove into a pile of stuffed animals. Daniel watched her from the doorway, leaning against the frame, a genuine, warm smile finally breaking through his icy demeanor.

"She looks happy, sir," Marcus noted, standing respectfully behind him.

"She is safe, Marcus," Daniel corrected, his dark eyes never leaving his daughter. "And she will remain safe."
