Chapter 5

The air in the brightly lit nursery grew completely stagnant. The vivid colors of the room—the rich mahogany, the dark red of Evelyn’s blouse, the pristine white of the carpets—seemed to sharpen into absolute, cinematic focus.

"You think I'm weak, Victor?" Daniel whispered, his voice dangerously low.

"I think you're a pathetic excuse for a boss," Victor spat.

Without a fraction of hesitation, Victor pulled back his right arm and swung a heavy, vicious punch aimed directly at Daniel’s jaw. He put his entire body weight into the strike, aiming to knock the Mafia boss unconscious in front of his mother and the staff.

Daniel did not panic. He did not drop his son.

With the terrifying, ingrained reflexes of a man who had survived a dozen cartel wars, Daniel merely shifted his weight. He slipped outside the punch with effortless, fluid grace. Victor’s fist sailed through empty air, the sheer momentum pulling the older cousin slightly off-balance and leaving his left side completely exposed.

In a fraction of a second, Daniel planted his polished leather shoe firmly into the carpet. Utilizing the immense, deeply masculine power of his core and his free right arm, he drove one explosive, devastating counterpunch straight across Victor’s face.

The heavy gold family signet ring on Daniel’s hand connected with the fair, rosy skin of Victor’s cheekbone with a sickening, deafening crack.

The kinetic force of the blow was absolute. Victor’s eyes rolled back in his head instantly. The impact lifted him entirely off his feet, sending him spinning violently backward across the room. He hurtled out of control, soaring directly toward the massive, rolling linen trolley positioned near the center of the nursery.

Victor crashed into the trolley with a thunderous, metallic slam.

The impact destroyed the structure instantly. Folded baby blankets in vibrant pastel colors exploded from the upper shelves, raining down like heavy confetti in the bright, natural light. Pristine changing pads tumbled chaotically across the floor. Lightweight storage baskets shattered against the mahogany baseboards, scattering their contents in every direction.

Victor’s dead weight crashed through the collapsing lower frame of the metal trolley, twisting the steel legs before he hit the carpet in a crumpled, motionless heap. He lay groaning in the ruins of the nursery supplies, his expensive tailored suit covered in soft infant blankets, blood already pooling from a deep laceration on his cheekbone.

There was no dialogue. The sheer, overwhelming violence of the single strike had paralyzed the room. Marissa stood flattened against the wall, her hands clamped over her mouth in sheer shock.

Daniel stood in the center of the destruction, his breathing perfectly even, his dark suit completely unruffled. He adjusted Baby Noah gently against his chest, ensuring the six-day-old infant was still resting peacefully in his left arm, entirely unharmed by the explosive violence that had just erupted inches away from him.
