Chapter 16

The request hung in the quiet, bright medical suite. Clara had never asked Daniel to cross that line before. She had always shied away from the brutal, lethal reality of his profession. But the trauma inflicted upon her by his own blood had fundamentally changed her. She realized that survival in the Carter family required ruthlessness.
Daniel didn't look shocked or disgusted. He simply looked at his wife with profound respect.
"Are you certain?" Daniel asked softly. "Once it is done, it cannot be undone."
"They tried to kill me, Daniel," Clara said, her voice unwavering. "They tried to take our son. If they ever escape, they will try again. Erase them."
Daniel stood up, adjusting his suit jacket. The decision was made. The sentence was passed.
"I will handle it tonight," Daniel promised. He kissed her forehead, kissed Noah's cheek, and walked out of the suite, the heavy oak doors closing silently behind him.
He descended to the sub-basement holding cells. The air was cold and damp, smelling of ozone and fear. The heavy steel door of the cell groaned open.
Evelyn and Victor were shadows of their former selves. They were emaciated, dirty, and utterly broken by two weeks of solitary confinement and sensory deprivation. When Daniel stepped into the harsh, single-bulb light, they didn't even try to stand up.
"Daniel... please," Evelyn rasped, her voice barely a whisper. "We're sorry. We'll leave the country. We'll sign whatever you want."
"You already signed everything away," Daniel stated, his voice a low, terrifying rumble. He didn't look at them with anger anymore. He looked at them like a problem that had finally been solved.
He didn't draw a weapon. He didn't say another word. He simply turned and walked out of the cell.

Two massive, heavily armed bodyguards stepped into the room holding heavy canvas bags and industrial zip-ties. The heavy steel door slammed shut, cutting off Evelyn's sudden, frantic screams.
Daniel walked back up the stairs into the bright, cinematic light of his estate. The cancer had been entirely excised from his family.
