Chapter 19

The following morning, the city awoke to a scene of unprecedented, terrifying violence. Daniel Carter did not send a surgical strike team; he unleashed an army. Heavily armed Carter operatives descended on every known Moretti stronghold simultaneously. Illegal casinos were raided, safe houses were burned, and key lieutenants were executed in broad daylight.

The police, heavily bribed and completely overwhelmed, stayed entirely out of the way.

Daniel personally led the assault on the Moretti headquarters, a fortified high-rise in the financial district. He moved through the building like a force of nature, his tailored suit unmarked by the chaos, his suppressed weapon dispatching hostiles with ruthless, terrifying precision.

He kicked open the heavy mahogany doors of the penthouse office.

Don Moretti, an old, desperate man, sat cowering behind his massive desk. He was surrounded by four high-priced mercenaries, but they were no match for the overwhelming firepower of Daniel's elite tactical team that flooded the room.

"Stand down," Daniel commanded the mercenaries, his voice echoing coldly. "You are being paid to fight a war, not to die in a suicide pact. Leave now, and you live."

The mercenaries, calculating the odds against the heavily armed Carter operatives, slowly lowered their weapons. They backed out of the room, abandoning the old Don to his fate.

Moretti stared at Daniel, his face pale and sweating. "Carter... please. We can negotiate. I can offer you the ports. I can offer you millions."

"You threatened my wife," Daniel stated smoothly, walking slowly toward the desk. He exuded the absolute, unyielding dominance of a king. "You thought because I am a family man, I have vulnerabilities. You were wrong. My family is not my weakness. It is my motivation."

Daniel didn't draw his weapon. He looked at Moretti with profound disgust. "You are finished, Moretti. Your syndicate is destroyed. Your men are dead or fleeing. And you are going to spend the rest of your miserable life in federal prison."
