Chapter 9

The sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting long, dramatic shadows across the heavily fortified Moretti estate, yet the bright video colors of the cinematic lighting remained crisp and vivid. The sprawling compound had transformed into an armed encampment. Heavily armored black SUVs were lined up in the circular driveway, engines idling with a low, menacing growl. Men in dark tactical gear moved with silent, lethal efficiency, loading heavy weaponry into the vehicles.

Raffaele walked out of the massive front doors, his tailored dark suit jacket back on, his presence commanding absolute silence from his soldiers. The artistic tattoos on his hands flexed as he adjusted his cuffs.

Standing near the lead SUV, trembling violently under the watchful eye of a massive bodyguard, was eleven-year-old Mason Reed. The boy’s formal child’s clothing was rumpled, his shiny dress shoes scuffed. His fair, rosy skin was deathly pale, and tears streamed continuously down his face. He had spent the last two hours locked in a secure room, utterly terrified of the fate that awaited him.

Raffaele walked slowly toward the boy. The heavy, measured sound of his polished shoes made Mason flinch, the child pressing his back against the armored door of the vehicle.

Raffaele stopped a few feet away. He did not look at the boy with hatred, but rather with a cold, terrifying indifference.

"You are going home, Mason," Raffaele said, his deep, raspy voice cutting through the ambient noise of the idling engines.

Mason let out a shuddering, breathless gasp of relief. "T-thank you, sir. Please, don't hurt my mom."

Raffaele’s expression remained perfectly still. The charming, handsome movie-star face was a mask of unyielding granite.

"Your mother... made her choices," Raffaele murmured, the slow, controlled pauses in his speech highlighting the absolute finality of his words. "Just as you... made yours... when you allowed her to force a toddler to her knees at your feet."

Mason looked down at his shoes, profound shame mixing with his terror.

"Get in the car," Raffaele commanded softly.

The bodyguard opened the heavy armored door, and Mason scrambled inside, curling into a tight ball on the back seat.

Raffaele turned to Vincenzo, who was strapping a tactical vest over his dress shirt.

"You have the message?" Raffaele asked.

"Yes, Boss," Vincenzo nodded. "We drop the boy at the Reed compound gates. We hand the grandfather the package containing Vanessa's wedding ring and the video footage from the terrace. We tell him the marriage is annulled by blood."

"And when he inevitably reaches for his weapon?" Raffaele asked, a dark, terrifying calmness settling over him.

"We execute him on his own front steps," Vincenzo replied without hesitation.

Raffaele nodded slowly. "Good. The city belongs to us by sunrise. Let no one stand in your way."

He watched as his men piled into the armored vehicles. The heavy iron gates of the estate swung open, and the convoy roared out onto the private highway, a dark, unstoppable wave of violence speeding toward the Reed syndicate. Raffaele stood alone on the driveway, the bright, natural light of the setting sun reflecting off his cold, sharp eyes. The purge had begun.
