Chapter 16

The top floor of the private Manhattan hospital was a fortress. Ravelli bodyguards stood at every entrance, checking the credentials of the elite medical staff assigned to Sofia’s care.
Lorenzo stepped off the private elevator, his tailored suit immaculate once more, the brutal violence of the harbor washed entirely from his demeanor. He looked like a concerned, loving father as he pushed open the door to the secure maternity suite.
The room was bathed in soft, warm light, completely isolated from the chaos outside. Sofia lay comfortably in the center of the room, her rosy complexion slowly returning. Nurse Claire stood nearby, gently checking the vitals of the three sleeping babies in their secure bassinets.
"Dad," Sofia smiled, her blue eyes lighting up as Lorenzo entered the room.
"How are my beautiful grandchildren?" Lorenzo asked softly, his American accent thick with genuine warmth. He walked over to the bassinets, looking down at the three tiny, fragile lives he had just burned a family to protect.
"They are perfect," Sofia whispered, her voice still weak but filled with overwhelming relief. She looked at her father, noticing the faint tension around his eyes. "Is it done, Dad?"
"The Mercer family has permanently relocated," Lorenzo assured her, kissing her forehead. "Your divorce papers are being expedited by a sympathetic judge. By the time you leave this hospital, you will be a Ravelli again, completely unburdened."
Sofia exhaled a long, shuddering breath. "And Moretti?"
Lorenzo’s expression hardened for a fraction of a second before softening again. "Moretti is an old man making desperate mistakes. I am handling him. You do not need to worry about anything except resting and healing."
"Nurse Claire has been wonderful," Sofia added, glancing at the dedicated professional.

Lorenzo turned to the nurse, offering a respectful nod. "As promised, the donation has been transferred to the hospital's pediatric wing. Your bravery will save many lives, Claire."
"Just doing my job, Mr. Ravelli," Nurse Claire replied professionally, adjusting a blanket.
