Chapter 8

The night air was crisp and cold as Luciano stepped out of the heavy brass doors of the fencing club. The bright exterior security lights illuminated the fleet of black, armored SUVs idling in the private parking lot. Dozens of heavily armed men, all white American enforcers loyal to the Moretti bloodline, stood waiting in disciplined silence. The cinematic, natural lighting of the club's facade provided a dramatic backdrop to the gathering army.

Vincenzo stepped forward, handing Luciano a fresh, tailored suit jacket to replace the one he had discarded upstairs.

"The teams are in position, Boss," Vincenzo reported, his face grim. "We have the warehouse surrounded. The Petrov lieutenants are inside. They think the extraction is still on schedule."

Luciano slipped his arms into the tailored jacket, adjusting his cuffs so his heavy family signet ring was visible. He buttoned the jacket, leaving his dress shirt collar open. The charming, romantic look of the loose strands of hair falling over his forehead now framed the face of an absolute warlord preparing for a siege.

"They believe they are waiting for a hostage," Luciano said slowly, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "We will deliver them a massacre."

"We're ready to breach on your command," Vincenzo said, opening the rear door of the lead SUV.

Luciano climbed into the back of the SUV. The heavy, armored door slammed shut with a definitive, metallic thud. The convoy of black vehicles accelerated out of the parking lot, their headlights cutting through the darkness like predatory eyes.

As they sped toward the industrial district, the city lights blurred past the tinted windows. Luciano sat in perfect, terrifying silence. His mind was a cold, calculating machine. The betrayal of his cousins was a deep, agonizing wound, but it was also a necessary catalyst. He had allowed the rival families to believe he was complacent, distracted by his domestic life. Tonight, he would violently disabuse them of that notion.

The convoy slowed to a halt several blocks away from the target warehouse. Luciano stepped out into the shadows, racking the slide of his suppressed pistol with a sharp, metallic clack.

"Vincenzo," Luciano whispered, his voice barely audible over the distant hum of traffic. "Take team alpha around the back. Secure the service exits. No one leaves."

"Yes, Boss," Vincenzo nodded, melting into the darkness with a dozen men.

Luciano led the main assault team toward the front of the dilapidated warehouse. The bright, cinematic colors of the city skyline provided a stark contrast to the gritty, shadowed industrial sector. He approached the heavy metal loading doors, his polished leather shoes making absolutely no sound on the cracked pavement.

He held up a tattooed hand, signaling his men to hold. He listened. Inside, he could hear the faint, muffled sounds of laughter and American accents. The Petrov lieutenants were celebrating their perceived victory, entirely unaware that death was standing right outside their door.

"Breach," Luciano commanded softly.
