Chapter 10

The sun began to rise over the city, casting long, golden shadows across the fortified grounds of the Moretti estate. The cinematic lighting shifted from the harsh, cold blues of the night to the warm, vibrant colors of a new dawn.
Luciano stepped out of the armored SUV, his tailored dark suit smelling faintly of smoke and gunpowder. The violent, bloody purge of the Petrov leadership was complete. He had decimated their ranks, secured his borders, and sent an unmistakable message to every rival family on the East Coast: the Moretti bloodline was untouchable.
He walked purposefully up the sweeping marble staircase of his home, his polished leather shoes clicking rhythmically. He bypassed his private office and headed straight for the family wing.
When he gently pushed open the heavy oak door of Mabel's bedroom, the room was perfectly peaceful. The bright morning light filtered through the curtains, illuminating the soft pink walls and the plush toys scattered across the floor.
Marcus, the massive bodyguard, was sitting quietly in a chair near the window, keeping watch. He stood up instantly when Luciano entered, bowing his head respectfully.
"She slept through the night, Boss," Marcus whispered.
"Thank you, Marcus. You are dismissed," Luciano murmured, his deep voice softening entirely.
Luciano walked over to the small, ornate bed. Mabel was sleeping soundly, clutching her small formal purse—the very item that had initiated the catastrophic chain of events—tightly against her chest. Her fair, rosy cheeks were peaceful, entirely unaware of the absolute hellfire her father had unleashed upon the city to protect her.
Luciano slowly sank to his knees beside the bed. The terrifying, cold, intimidating Mafia Boss vanished completely, leaving only a devoted father. He reached out with his heavily tattooed hand, gently brushing a soft curl from her forehead.
"I told you I would keep you safe, little bird," Luciano whispered, his voice cracking slightly with the profound, overwhelming weight of his love for her.
Mabel stirred, her bright blue eyes fluttering open. She looked at him, a sleepy, innocent smile spreading across her face.
"Hi, Daddy," Mabel murmured, reaching out a tiny hand to touch his neatly trimmed stubble. "Are the bad people gone?"
"Yes," Luciano promised, pressing a tender kiss to her small palm. "They are all gone. And they are never coming back."
"Good," Mabel sighed, snuggling back down under the warm blankets. "I knew you would win."

Luciano smiled, a rare, genuine expression that transformed his handsome face. He stood up, looking out the bedroom window at the sprawling, awakened city below. He had protected his daughter, elevated his loyal soldiers, and dismantled his greatest political rivals in a single, devastating night.
The internal threat had been neutralized, and the external war had been won. But as Luciano stood watch over his sleeping child, he knew that peace in their world was always temporary. He smoothed the lapels of his suit jacket, his jaw clenching with renewed, absolute resolve. He was ready for whatever came next. The king had defended his throne, and he would bathe the world in blood again if it meant keeping his little bird safe.
