Chapter 9

The safehouse was a massive, ultra-modern glass and steel compound nestled high in the remote mountains, far from the reach of Robert Bellini’s crumbling empire. The bright, cinematic morning sun poured through the panoramic windows, illuminating a sleek, minimalist conference room.

Sarah Bellini stood at the head of a long, black marble table. She had changed out of her tailored evening suit into a sharp, slate-gray business dress that radiated absolute, untouchable authority. Her fair, rosy skin looked refreshed, the exhaustion of the previous day entirely washed away.

Sitting around the table were six men. They were the most lethal, highly respected capos in the American syndicate—men who had secretly loathed Robert’s erratic, abusive leadership and had been quietly recruited by Sarah over the past two years. Vincent stood silently by the door, acting as her chief enforcer.

"The transition of the offshore assets was completed at 0400 hours," Sarah announced, her voice calm, clear, and perfectly measured. "The funds have been secured in decentralized accounts. As promised, your operational budgets have been tripled, and your territories have been expanded."

A heavily scarred capo sitting to her right nodded respectfully. "You delivered exactly what you promised, Mrs. Bellini. Robert’s organization is in absolute freefall. Half his men walked off the job this morning when the payroll didn't clear. The feds are tearing his warehouses apart."

"Robert is a wounded animal," another capo warned, leaning forward. "And wounded animals are dangerous. He still has loyalists. He will try to rally the commission to sanction a hit on you for violating family protocol."

Sarah smiled a cold, terrifying smile that did not reach her eyes.

"The commission respects power," Sarah stated confidently. "And Robert has none left. I have already sent the financial ledgers to the heads of the five families. I showed them exactly how much Robert was stealing from their joint ventures to cover his own gambling debts. The commission will not sanction a hit on me. They will be too busy hunting him."

"So, what is the next move?" Vincent asked from the doorway.

"We consolidate," Sarah said, tapping a sleek pen against the marble table. "We absorb Robert’s remaining clean businesses. We install our own people in the ports. And we ensure that the Bellini name is no longer associated with the crude, violent tantrums of a dying old man. We operate with silence, efficiency, and absolute precision."

The men around the table nodded in unison. They were not looking at a widow anymore. They were looking at the new head of the most powerful crime syndicate on the eastern seaboard.

"Are there any other concerns?" Sarah asked, her sharp eyes sweeping the room.

Before anyone could speak, the heavy oak door to the conference room slowly creaked open.

Everyone turned. Standing in the doorway, wearing a clean set of play clothes and holding a small stuffed rabbit, was Lily. Ethan stood right behind her, looking significantly more relaxed than he had ever been at the estate.

"Mommy," Lily said softly, rubbing her eyes. "Ethan wants to know if we can have pancakes for breakfast."

The hardened, lethal Mafia bosses sitting around the table immediately softened. They watched as Sarah’s terrifying, cold demeanor melted instantly into a warm, radiant maternal glow.

"Of course you can, my sweet girl," Sarah smiled, stepping away from the marble table and walking over to the children. She knelt down, kissing Lily’s forehead and ruffling Ethan’s hair. "Go tell the chef to make as many pancakes as you want. With extra syrup."

"Yay!" Lily cheered, grabbing Ethan’s hand and running back down the hallway toward the kitchen.

Sarah watched them go, a fierce, unbreakable protective fire burning in her chest. She stood up, smoothing her dress, and turned back to the men at the table. The mother vanished. The boss returned.

"We are adjourned," Sarah commanded.
