Chapter 7

The close-up of Adrian revealed the staggering depth of the man beneath the terrifying Mafia persona. As Helen settled into the heavy wooden chair, her shoulders hunched defensively, she kept her hands buried deep in her lap, still utterly terrified of making a mistake in the bright, luminous room.
Adrian slowly lowered himself back into his seat. The crystal chandeliers cast a gentle golden glow over his thick, swept-back hair and the extremely short, neatly trimmed stubble defining his jawline.
Without breaking his intense, cold gaze, Adrian moved his left hand. The generous negative space of his refined tattoos was fully visible under the clean, clear lighting. He reached across the pristine white tablecloth.
He rested his large, powerful open hand directly on the table, right beside the edge of Helen’s place setting.
He didn't command her to bring her hands up. He simply waited, an immovable anchor of absolute safety in a sea of sharks.
Helen looked down at his hand, the family signet ring gleaming boldly on his finger. She slowly turned her head, looking up into her nephew's cold, perceptive eyes.
Looking directly into her eyes, the terrifying edge in Adrian's face completely vanished. The monster retreated, and the boy she had raised took his place. He spoke with a restrained, profound tenderness that no one in the room had ever heard him use.
“Those hands raised me,” Adrian whispered.
The words were an absolute, undeniable declaration of love and loyalty. They carried a weight that transcended the criminal empire, the money, and the power.
Helen’s lips pressed tightly together as a fresh wave of tears gathered in her eyes. The profound emotional release made her chest shake. She could not quite believe she was truly welcome, but the steadfast, unyielding presence of his hand on the table told her everything she needed to know.
Slowly, agonizingly, Helen pulled her hands out from the hiding place in her lap. They were trembling violently, shaking with age and adrenaline.
She reached out across the table. Her fragile, shaking fingers slowly settled into the center of Adrian’s large, tattooed palm.
Adrian gently closed his fingers around hers, securing her trembling hand in his warm, iron grip. The shaking immediately lessened, grounded by his immense strength.
"You belong here, Aunt Helen," Adrian murmured, his American accent soft and reassuring. "More than anyone else in this room."

"Thank you, Adrian," Helen wept quietly, her tears spilling over her rosy, wrinkled cheeks, catching the polished highlights of the room's lighting.
Standing just behind them, Grace Miller felt a swell of profound respect for the man. The beautiful housemaid kept her posture perfectly straight, but a small, genuine smile touched her lips. She had witnessed the true measure of the Mafia boss, and it was a loyalty that commanded absolute devotion. But the heartwarming moment was brief, as the predator in Adrian was far from finished with the woman sitting across from him.
