Chapter 6

The medium wide shot framed the escalating climax perfectly. The grand, luminous dining room was frozen in time. The clean whites of the tablecloth and the polished highlights of the room provided a stark, beautiful contrast to the dark, masculine power that was about to be unleashed.

As Helen took her second step away from the table, Adrian moved.

He didn't rush. He didn't shout. Adrian rose from his seat with a terrifying, deliberate grace. His powerful shoulders shifted beneath his tailored dark three-piece suit. The artistic tattoos on his hands flexed as he reached out and firmly gripped the back of the empty chair that Celeste had tried to block.

He held the chair steady, entirely ignoring his fiancée. He looked directly at the young woman in the black maid dress.

“Grace,” Adrian said.

His deep, low voice was completely unhurried, yet it carried an incredible, acoustic weight that resonated through the entire ballroom. It was the voice of a man who commanded thousands of soldiers, a man who ordered executions and forged empires.

"Yes, Mr. Sterling?" Grace responded instantly, her American accent clear and unwavering, standing her ground under the intense scrutiny of the entire room.

“Help her sit,” Adrian commanded.

The instruction dropped into the room like a physical weight. Every single guest at the massive, crowded table stopped eating. The low hum of conversation vanished completely. Men in expensive suits and women in jewel-toned gowns turned their heads, their fair, rosy faces locking onto the head of the table. The silence was absolute.

"Adrian!" Celeste hissed, her face flushing a deep, angry crimson. She half-rose from her seat, her sculpted satin evening gown rustling loudly. "You cannot be serious! You are humiliating me in front of the commission!"

"Sit down, Celeste," Adrian replied, his tone devoid of any emotion, keeping his eyes fixed on Grace and his aunt.

"I will not!" Celeste argued, her carefully maintained social poise shattering into pieces. "I spent months planning this dinner! I will not have it ruined by a shaking old woman who can't even hold a fork!"

"I said, sit down," Adrian repeated. The measured pause between his words was so loaded with lethal intent that several capos at the table instinctively reached for the concealed weapons beneath their jackets, anticipating a violent rupture.

Celeste swallowed hard. The terror finally pierced her arrogance. She slowly sank back into her chair, her chest heaving with humiliated, suppressed rage.

Grace didn't hesitate for another second. She stepped forward, her neat white apron swishing gently, and placed a supportive, elegant hand under Helen’s elbow.

"Come along, Miss Helen," Grace said softly, a subtle, victorious warmth bleeding into her tone. "Your chair is waiting."

Helen, trembling from head to toe, allowed the young housemaid to guide her back to the table. The entire room watched in breathless silence as Grace gently supported the elderly woman, lowering her carefully into the seat directly beside the most dangerous man in the city.
