Chapter 9

The silence in the luxurious guest suite was profound, broken only by Diana’s rapid, panicked breathing. The bright, elegant lighting of the room felt like an interrogation spotlight. Julian stood perfectly still, his powerful shoulders squared, his cold, perceptive eyes analyzing her terror with objective, chilling precision.

"Julian, you have to understand the pressure my family put on me," Diana stammered, stepping backward until she hit the edge of the heavy oak dresser. "My father demanded the merger, but Elias promised us a larger cut of the northern territory if we facilitated the shipment. I didn't want to hurt you. I was just trying to secure my own future."

"You attempted to secure your future by delivering me to a federal prison," Julian replied, his voice devoid of any human empathy. "And you attempted to cover your tracks by torturing a woman who cleans your floors."

He took a slow, deliberate step toward her. The artistic tattoos on his hands flexed as he kept his arms loosely by his sides.

"You believed," Julian murmured, utilizing the slow, controlled pauses that made his threats so devastating, "that because you possessed a recognizable name... you possessed power."

"I am a Vale!" Diana shrieked, desperation clawing at her throat. "If you touch me, my father will unleash a war that will burn this city to the ground! You will lose everything!"

"Your father," Julian corrected her smoothly, "is currently negotiating his own surrender."

Diana gasped, shaking her head violently. "No. No, that's impossible. He has hundreds of men."

"He had a vulnerability at the harbor," Julian said, checking the heavy wristwatch on his arm. "My strike teams secured the docks ten minutes ago. Elias is dead. The product is mine. When I called your father and explained that his daughter was conspiring with the federal authorities to seize his assets as well... he officially disowned you."

The revelation was a fatal, psychological blow. Diana’s knees literally buckled beneath her. She collapsed onto the plush carpet, her expensive satin gown pooling around her. She buried her fair, rosy face in her hands, sobbing hysterically as the reality of her total destruction crashed over her. She was entirely alone, stripped of her name, her wealth, and her protection.

"You broke the rules of this house," Julian stated, staring down at the weeping woman without a single ounce of pity.

"Please, Julian, I'll disappear," Diana begged, looking up at him with tear-filled eyes. "I'll leave the country tonight. You'll never see me again. I'll sign whatever you want."

"You will sign a full confession regarding the harbor conspiracy," Julian commanded coldly. "You will detail Elias's involvement and your father's knowledge of the operation. And then, you will be escorted to a private, highly secured facility in the Midwest. You will remain there until I decide otherwise."

"A prison?" Diana whimpered, her eyes wide with horror.

"An exile," Julian corrected. "You will never step foot in this city again. And if you attempt to contact anyone in the syndicate... my men will not ask for a confession."

He turned his back on her, a gesture of absolute, terrifying dismissal. He walked toward the doors, leaving her sobbing on the floor.

"Thomas," Julian ordered as he stepped back into the hallway, addressing the senior lieutenant waiting outside. "Get the confession. Then get her out of my house."

May you like

"Yes, Boss," Thomas nodded, stepping into the room.

Julian walked away, his polished leather shoes striking the marble floor. The treason had been excised. His empire was secure. But his thoughts were no longer on the violent politics of the syndicate. His mind was entirely focused on the mahogany-paneled study at the end of the hall, and the woman waiting inside.
