Chapter 9

The grueling, agonizing hours inside the surgical suite crawled by like a waking nightmare. The bright, sterile lights illuminated every tense movement of the medical team. Luciano stood perfectly still beside his wife, his tattooed hands holding hers, his deep, raspy voice offering a constant stream of low, measured comfort as the surgeons worked frantically to save the premature infant.
Finally, a sharp, thin, beautiful cry pierced the tense silence of the operating room.
Luciano’s breath hitched in his throat. He looked up, his cold, sharp eyes instantly softening as Dr. Evans lifted a tiny, fragile, perfectly formed baby boy into the air. The infant’s fair, rosy skin was covered in medical fluids, his tiny arms flailing as he cried out against the sudden cold of the room.
"It's a boy, Mr. Ferraro," Dr. Evans said, his voice thick with relief. "He is small, but his lungs are strong. He's a fighter."
"A boy," Celeste wept, her head falling back against the pillow in sheer, exhausted joy.
The neonatal nurses moved with practiced, urgent efficiency. They quickly cleaned the infant, wrapped him securely in a thermal blanket, and placed him gently onto Celeste’s chest for a few precious seconds before whisking him away to the specialized incubator to stabilize his breathing.
Luciano pressed his forehead against his wife’s, tears of profound relief sliding down his cheeks into his neatly trimmed stubble. "You did it, Celeste. You saved him."
"We saved him," she whispered weakly, her eyes fluttering closed as the sedatives began to pull her into a deep, necessary sleep.
Once the medical team confirmed that both mother and child were completely stable, Luciano stepped out of the surgical suite. He pulled the surgical mask from his face and stripped off the sterile gown. He retrieved his tailored dark suit jacket from the waiting room chair and slipped it back over his broad, masculine shoulders.
The overwhelming relief he had felt inside the operating room vanished the moment he crossed the threshold back into the main estate. His expression hardened into a mask of pure, terrifying ice. The loose strands of wavy hair falling over his forehead no longer looked romantic; they looked like the mane of a warlord preparing for an execution.
He walked purposefully toward the heavy steel doors leading to the sub-basement. Marcus was waiting for him, his face grim.
"How are they, Boss?" Marcus asked respectfully.
"They survived," Luciano stated, his volume incredibly low. "Both of them."
Marcus let out a visible sigh of relief. "Thank God."
"Yes," Luciano murmured, his eyes locking onto the heavy steel door. "But my father and my brother are out of miracles. Open it."
Marcus swiped a keycard, and the heavy door hissed open. Luciano descended the concrete stairs, his polished leather shoes echoing rhythmically in the damp, soundproof corridor.
He reached the end of the hall and pushed open the door to the primary interrogation room. The bright, cinematic lighting of the upstairs foyer was replaced by a single, harsh fluorescent bulb dangling from the ceiling.
Augusto and Dario were zip-tied to heavy metal chairs in the center of the room. They looked pathetic and broken, their expensive clothes stained with sweat and blood.
When Luciano stepped into the room, both men flinched.
"Luciano," Augusto gasped, his fair skin pale and sweaty. "Is the child...?"
"He lives," Luciano said coldly, stopping a few feet away from them. "No thanks to you."
"Dom, I swear, I didn't know it would go that far," Dario begged, tears streaming down his swollen, bruised face. "Dad told me to just bump her. I panicked. I pushed too hard."

"You pushed my pregnant wife. Down a flight of stairs," Luciano repeated, the controlled pauses highlighting the absolute insanity of the act. He turned his intimidating gaze to his father. "You filmed it. To orchestrate a coup with the Commission."
"The Commission is already moving, Luciano!" Augusto suddenly shouted, desperate to leverage his only remaining power. "I sent the video file to the Five Families before Nora grabbed the phone! It streamed directly to a secure server! They have the footage of you assaulting a family member! They are holding an emergency tribunal tonight!"
