Chapter 4

The moment Caleb was securely in the arms of her trusted bodyguard, Alessandra squared her shoulders. The luxurious crimson fabric of her evening gown shifted as she adjusted her stance, settling into a grounded, balanced posture that completely belied her elegant appearance. The bright, cinematic light from the chandeliers caught the gold of her family signet ring as she slowly rolled her shoulders.

Bianca, utterly consumed by her own arrogant rage and emboldened by the presence of their parents, mistook Alessandra’s silence for submission. She believed the younger sister was still the fragile girl she used to bully in their youth, completely ignoring the fact that Alessandra had spent the last five years ruthlessly dismantling rival cartels to secure her position as Boss.

"Are you even listening to me?" Bianca shrieked, her fair face mottled with fury.

She pulled her arm back, her heavy rings glinting in the light, and swung a second, vicious slap aimed directly at Alessandra’s face.

Alessandra moved with blinding, predatory speed.

She didn't raise her hands to block. Instead, with effortless precision, she slipped her head inches to the outside of the incoming strike. Bianca’s manicured hand sliced through empty air, the sheer momentum pulling her slightly off balance and exposing the left side of her face.

In a single, fluid motion born of brutal, unrelenting training, Alessandra drove an explosive counterpunch straight across Bianca’s jaw.

The impact was catastrophic. The sickening crunch of bone met flesh, the sound echoing sharply against the high ceiling of the dining room.

The kinetic force of the blow lifted Bianca completely off her expensive heels. She spun backward, her arms flailing wildly as she lost all control of her body. She rocketed across the carpet, hurtling directly into the freestanding, antique wooden chess table positioned near the windows.

The collision was devastating. The heavy wooden top of the chess table flipped violently sideways under her weight. Intricately carved marble chess pieces exploded across the thick carpet like shrapnel. Two nearby upholstered dining chairs were violently knocked apart, sliding heavily across the floor as Bianca crashed into the wreckage.

She collapsed heavily beside the splintered remains of the table, her luxurious dinner dress tangling around her legs. She lay motionless for a terrifying second before letting out a high-pitched, groaning wail, clutching her rapidly swelling jaw, a trickle of dark blood starkly contrasting with her pale, rosy skin.

No dialogue broke the heavy silence. The sheer, overwhelming violence of the strike paralyzed every single person in the room. Vincent stood frozen in the doorway, his arms dropping to his sides in shock. Mason, the ten-year-old bully, scrambled backward against the wall, his cruel smirk entirely erased by the terrifying realization of what his aunt was truly capable of.

Alessandra stood in the center of the room, her breathing perfectly steady. She slowly lowered her fist, flexing her fingers to ensure the signet ring hadn't twisted. She didn't spare a single glance for the moaning woman on the floor. She had merely swatted a nuisance out of her path. She turned her cold, terrifying gaze toward the true architect of the evening's horrors.
