Chapter 7

The silence stretching across the grand salon was absolute and apocalyptic. The fifty elite guests, capos, and relatives remained paralyzed on the champagne velvet sofas, the festive Christmas reception completely obliterated by the exposure of such calculated, psychopathic cruelty. Adrian West’s tattooed hand remained resting firmly on the side table, a stark visual anchor holding back the impending slaughter.

"I was merely reminding the staff of their place, Adrian," Vivienne lied, her voice cracking as she backed away until her spine hit a gilded mirror. "She is a servant. She was overstepping her boundaries."

"You arranged my kidnapping," Adrian stated, his voice carrying clearly across the polished marble. "You chained me in the dark. You used a six-year-old child as leverage to force a woman to participate in my torture. And you stand in your family's home, wearing my ring, and attempt to threaten them again."

"I did it to make you realize how much you need our alliance!" Vivienne shrieked, tears of frustration ruining her flawless makeup. "You were stalling the wedding! You refused to expand into the northern territories! I had to show you that you were vulnerable without the protection of the Shaw syndicate! It was a political strategy!"

"A political strategy," Adrian repeated slowly, tasting the absolute venom of her logic. "You tortured me for a signature on a marriage certificate."

"It worked, didn't it?!" Vivienne screamed, losing her mind entirely. "I rescued you! I secured the merger! We are the most powerful family in the country now! You should be thanking me for having the stomach to do what was necessary!"

"You have shown me that you are a fatal liability," Adrian replied with brutal, surgical precision.

He didn't wait for her to formulate another hysterical defense. He shifted his dark, intense gaze from the ruined woman to the fifty elite guests seated around the massive room. The warm golden lights from the towering Christmas tree twinkled in the background, a stark contrast to the violence promised in his eyes.

"This reception is concluded," Adrian announced, his authority absolute. "Everyone who does not carry the West name, or work in my personal security detail, will vacate this salon immediately."

Chairs scraped frantically against the polished marble floors. Men and women paled in terror as they abandoned their champagne glasses and festive cheer. They rushed toward the massive double doors, eager to escape the impending explosion of violence before they were forced to take a side in a mafia war.

"Adrian, you are making a catastrophic mistake," Vivienne hissed, attempting to salvage her dignity as the room rapidly emptied. "This is my family's mansion! My father has fifty armed guards patrolling the perimeter. If you touch me, you will not leave this estate alive."

"I would burn this estate to ash before I let you breathe free air again," Adrian replied coldly.

Within ninety seconds, the sprawling salon was completely empty, save for Adrian, Vivienne, Nora, Maisie, and Adrian's heavy security detail standing silently by the silk drapes.

Adrian looked down at Nora. The gentle maid was still clutching her daughter, her delicate features pale with shock, yet she had stood her ground.

"Nora," Adrian said, his tone softening only marginally as he addressed her. "Take Maisie upstairs to the library. Lock the doors. Allow no one inside but my personal guard."
