Chapter 10

The romantic vulnerability vanished in a fraction of a second, replaced instantly by the cold, calculating mask of the apex predator. Adrian’s hand dropped from Nora’s shoulder, moving swiftly back to his heavy pistol. He positioned his broad shoulders between Nora and the doorway, his angular face setting into a mask of pure, lethal authority.
"Enter," Adrian commanded, his deep voice slicing through the heavy silence of the library.
The heavy oak door swung open. Marcus, Adrian’s most trusted and scarred lead enforcer, stepped into the room. His face was pale and grim under the warm lighting.
"Boss, we have a massive problem," Marcus reported, catching his breath. "Vivienne’s father, the Senator, just arrived at the estate. His perimeter guards realized we took control of the interior. They have locked the main gates."
"Are they demanding negotiations?" Adrian asked, his voice a terrifying, measured calm.
"No, sir. They aren't talking," Marcus said, checking the magazine of his weapon. "A convoy of heavily armored, unmarked vehicles has breached the front courtyard. The Shaw family is heavily armed, and they are moving aggressively toward the mansion. They intend to wipe us out and bury the evidence."
Adrian’s eyes darkened to pitch. The immediate threat of Vivienne was neutralized, but the war she had provoked had arrived at his doorstep far faster than anticipated. The Shaw syndicate was executing a full-scale military assault to kill Adrian, erase the humiliation of the exposed kidnapping, and assert their dominance.
He looked at Nora, the protective instinct surging through his veins with terrifying force. The woman who had saved his life was currently trapped in a mansion under siege.
"Stay inside this library with Maisie," Adrian commanded, his voice absolute and leaving no room for argument. "Lock the heavy doors from the inside. Do not come out until I tell you it is safe."
"Adrian, please," Nora begged, grabbing the sleeve of his dark suit, her expressive eyes wide with terror. "They will kill you. There are too many of them."
"I am going to slaughter every man who steps foot in this house tonight," Adrian promised, reaching out to pull her flush against his chest for one brief, desperate embrace. He pressed a fierce kiss to her forehead. "I survived the dark because of you. I will come back to you. Now lock the door!"
Nora pulled Maisie close, tears streaming down her face as she stepped back. Adrian turned and strode out of the library, the heavy oak doors slamming shut and locking behind him with a definitive thud.
Adrian turned back to Marcus, his artistic tattoos stark in the dim light as he drew his weapon.
"Mobilize the strike teams," Adrian ordered as he headed for the grand marble staircase. "I want a choke point established in the grand foyer. Let them breach the front doors, then we rain fire on them. No one leaves this estate alive."

"Yes, Boss," Marcus nodded grimly, speaking rapidly into his tactical radio.
The estate, previously a beacon of Christmas warmth, was instantly transformed into a fortress preparing for a bloodbath. Sirens wailed in the distance as Adrian descended the marble stairs, his leather shoes silent, walking directly into the impending slaughter to destroy the Shaw empire and defend the woman he had finally claimed.
