Chapter 8

Rosaline moved into the east wing temporarily.

Her childhood room still existed beneath decades of redecorating.

Posy hated it.

Too many old portraits.

We changed rooms.

Simple.

Choice again.

The first week, Posy refused beads.

All beads.

A craft teacher brought a box.

Posy screamed.

Rosaline threw the entire box away.

Then regretted making the decision for her.

We retrieved it from the clean trash bag and put it in a cupboard.

Three months later Posy opened it herself.

Touched one bead.

Closed the box.

Fine.

No lesson.

Six months later she made a bracelet.

Three beads only.

Then stopped.

Rosaline wore it for a week.

Gareth would have called it unfinished.

We called it done.

That difference became a family joke eventually.

If Posy stopped drawing halfway:

Done.

If Rosaline abandoned a cake recipe:

Done.

If I left a meeting early:

Also done.

Perfection had become suspicious in our house.

Good.
