Chapter 15

The handmade bracelet returned unexpectedly.
Posy was seven.
She opened an old drawer while visiting Rosaline’s former home.
Inside was one surviving bead from the bracelet Gareth broke.
Yellow star.
Rosaline found her holding it.
“You okay?”
Posy shrugged.
“Can I make another?”
Her choice.
They sat together.
No deadline.
No pattern.
Posy made something objectively terrible.
Blue next to orange.
Three huge plastic pearls.
One wooden heart.
The yellow star in the middle.
She gave it to Rosaline.
Not Gareth.
Rosaline wore it to the next collector dinner beside diamonds worth more than houses.
People loved it.
One asked who designed it.
Rosaline answered:
“My daughter.”
Posy interrupted:
“No. I just made it.”
Important distinction.
Not designer.
Not heir.
Child.
May you like
The room laughed.
Good.
