Chapter 11

The blaring klaxon of the estate's general alarm shattered the quiet elegance of the mansion. The bright, cinematic lighting in the grand hallways was instantly replaced by the flashing red strobes of a full tactical lockdown. Heavy steel blast shutters descended over the massive windows, sealing the luxurious estate into a fortified bunker.

Valentina strode down the central corridor, her wet heels discarded, moving with silent, predatory speed in her stocking feet. She bypassed the grand staircase and headed straight for the armory located behind the main security desk.

"Report!" Valentina shouted over the wailing alarm, pushing through the armory doors.

Thomas was already inside, unlocking heavy steel cabinets and tossing suppressed submachine guns and Kevlar vests to the arriving estate guards. The men, all hardened professionals, moved with disciplined, lethal efficiency, snapping magazines into place and racking the slides of their weapons.

"The convoy just breached the main gates, Boss," Thomas said, handing Valentina a compact, fully loaded automatic weapon and a sleek, tailored Kevlar vest. "They didn't even try to negotiate. They blew the iron gates with C4 and are advancing up the driveway."

Valentina slipped the Kevlar vest over her ruined silk blouse and Marcus's borrowed jacket. She checked the chamber of her weapon with practiced, terrifying familiarity.

"How many hostiles?" Valentina asked, her American accent crisp and devoid of any panic.

"At least thirty, heavily armed and wearing Class IV body armor," Thomas estimated, checking the live feeds on his tablet. "They are splitting into two groups. One is pushing the front doors; the other is flanking toward the conservatory."

"They know the layout," Valentina murmured, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. "Victor gave them the blueprints."

"What's the play, Boss?" a seasoned guard asked, slamming a fresh magazine into his rifle.

"We don't hold the perimeter; we hold the choke points," Valentina commanded, her voice radiating absolute, unyielding authority. "Let them breach the ground floor. We establish a kill zone in the grand foyer and the main hallway. I want overlapping fields of fire. If they step inside this house, make sure they never step out."

The guards nodded in unison, dispersing instantly to their assigned tactical positions. Valentina took a deep breath, the cold weight of the weapon in her hands grounding her. She had built a fortress to protect her son, and now it was time to test its walls.
