Chapter 4

Dante Bellandi was a vision of deeply masculine, terrifying power. At thirty-one, he was the undisputed Mafia Boss, and he looked the part with chilling perfection. Handsome as a classic movie star, he possessed thick, slightly wavy dark hair that was naturally slicked back. A few loose strands fell effortlessly over his forehead, creating a charming, romantic look that stood in stark, horrifying contrast to the lethal violence currently radiating from his entire frame. His angular face, high-bridged nose, and sharply defined jawline were shadowed by extremely short, neatly trimmed stubble. His fair, rosy skin was flawless, marked only by the artistic, refined tattoos visible on his neck, hands, and fingers. The negative space in the ink designs prevented them from looking dense, instead giving him an undeniably attractive, yet incredibly dangerous presence.
He wore a tailored dark suit, the shirt unbuttoned at the chest to reveal more of the immaculate ink tracing his collarbone.
Dante did not shout. He did not run. He walked into the bright, cinematic light of the medical room with the slow, measured grace of an apex predator.
"Uncle Dante!" Leo exhaled, his defensive stance immediately dropping as profound relief washed over his youthful, rosy face.
Marcus froze, his hands hovering mere inches from Lily’s rubber riding boot. He slowly turned his head, his face instantly draining of its arrogant color. "Dante. You... you were supposed to be in the main lodge."
Dante ignored his cousin completely. His cold, intimidating eyes shifted to his weeping daughter.
"Daddy!" Lily sobbed, reaching her small arms out toward him, her tiny chest heaving with sheer terror. "He tried to take my boot! It’s scratching me, Daddy!"
Dante’s jaw clenched so tightly the artistic tattoos on his neck shifted. He took another slow step forward, placing himself directly between Marcus and the examination bench.
Realizing that his absolute betrayal was fully exposed, Marcus succumbed to a volatile, suicidal panic. He knew Dante's reputation; there would be no negotiation, no forgiveness for threatening the Boss's blood. In a desperate, cornered-animal reaction, Marcus pulled his right arm back and swung a heavy, wild punch aimed directly at Dante’s face.
Dante’s reaction was a masterpiece of controlled, explosive violence.
He didn't even raise his hands to block. He simply tilted his head, slipping seamlessly outside the desperate strike. Marcus’s fist sailed through the empty air, throwing the older man completely off balance.
Using Marcus's forward momentum against him, Dante planted his polished leather shoes. He torqued his broad shoulders and drove one explosive, devastating counterpunch straight across Marcus’s jaw.
The sickening crunch of bone echoed off the pristine white walls.
The sheer kinetic force of the blow lifted Marcus completely off the ground. He spun violently backward, entirely airborne, hurtling across the width of the bright medical room.
Marcus flew directly into the towering, rolling orthotic cart.
The heavy metal cart rocketed backward under his weight. Thick, custom foam leg molds burst from the shelves, flying through the air like morbid projectiles. Heavy wooden fitting blocks bounced aggressively across the polished tile, clattering loudly against the baseboards. Precision measuring tools and metal calipers scattered in every direction. Marcus crashed brutally through the collapsing lower frame of the cart, burying himself in a chaotic ruin of bent metal, shredded foam, and scattered medical supplies.

He lay there completely motionless, knocked unconscious instantly, blood pooling on the pristine white floor beneath him.
No dialogue was spoken. The utter silence of the room returned, broken only by the quiet, terrified whimpers of the little girl on the bench.
