Chapter 3

The tension in the brightly lit medical room was suffocating. The complete absence of background music amplified every sound—the heavy breathing of the men, the soft, panicked sobbing of three-year-old Lily, and the rustling of Dr. Emma’s scrubs as she scrambled to retrieve the fallen trauma shears.

"Leo, please, just get out of here," Emma pleaded in a frantic whisper, her American accent trembling. "Run and find Dante. I can hold them off."

"I’m not leaving her," Leo stated firmly, never taking his eyes off Grant. The fifteen-year-old widened his stance, his sneakers gripping the polished tile. "You touch her, Grant, and my uncle will bury you under this clubhouse. You know exactly what Dante does to people who threaten his daughter."

"Your uncle isn't here, kid," Grant chuckled darkly, slapping his gloved hands together. "And by the time he gets here, Marcus will have the boot, and you'll be sleeping on the floor with a broken jaw. Now, step aside."

"Make me," Leo challenged, his jaw set with stubborn, reckless courage.

"Have it your way," Grant said. He gestured with his head, and a second, equally imposing security man stepped out from the hallway corridor, closing the perimeter around the teenager. The two grown men flanked Leo, trapping him against the padded examination bench.

"Grant, grab the boy. Keep him quiet," Marcus ordered furiously, moving to circle around the right side of the bench, his eyes fixated obsessively on Lily’s rubber riding boot. "I am ending this ridiculous drama right now."

Grant lunged forward, his heavy, gloved hands reaching out to grab Leo by the collar of his equestrian jacket.

Leo did not freeze. Relying on years of intense boxing training, the teenager dropped his center of gravity. He twisted his torso violently, slipping smoothly out of Grant’s grasping hands. As he spun free, the second security man swung a heavy, looping punch aimed directly at the back of Leo’s head.

Leo’s reflexes were lightning fast. He brought his forearm up, executing a flawless, hard block that deflected the grown man’s strike. Without missing a beat, Leo pivoted on his sneakers, planted his feet, and shoved the second man in the chest with every ounce of strength he possessed.

The security man stumbled backward, his polished leather shoes slipping wildly on the slick tiles. He lost his balance completely and went hurtling backward into the towering, padded helmet cubbies lining the wall.

The impact was catastrophic. The entire wooden shelving unit shuddered violently. Dozens of expensive helmet boxes tumbled from the high shelves, raining down around the man. Thick, foam fitting pads scattered like confetti across the floor, bouncing off the polished tiles. The security man crashed hard against the wall, groaning as a heavy velvet display case fell directly onto his shoulder.

"You little bastard!" Grant roared, enraged by the teenager’s successful defense.

Before Grant could charge again, the heavy double doors of the private clinic swung open with a resounding, definitive click.

Dante Bellandi entered the room. He stopped perfectly still in the doorway, his cold, sharp, intimidating eyes instantly assessing the absolute chaos. He saw the scattered foam pads, the fallen security man, and his fifteen-year-old nephew holding a fighting stance.

And then, his gaze locked onto Marcus, whose hands were outstretched, reaching aggressively for his screaming, terrified three-year-old daughter.

No dialogue was spoken. The temperature in the room seemed to drop to absolute freezing.
