Chapter 29

Vance gasped for air, pushing himself up against the carved mahogany desk. His arrogant facade was entirely shattered, replaced by the sheer, unadulterated terror of a man who realized he had walked willingly into his own grave.
"You cannot kill me, Rook!" Vance choked out, spitting blood onto the rug. "The federal government will retaliate! They will burn your ports!"
"Will they retaliate?" Nathaniel asked, tilting his head with dangerous curiosity. The loose strands of dark hair fell over his forehead, contrasting violently with his cold, unblinking eyes. "Or will they thank me for eliminating a foolish liability who exposed their offshore routing numbers on a federal server?"
Vance froze. "What?"
"My cyber division intercepted your encrypted communications the moment you RSVP'd to my wife's gala," Nathaniel explained smoothly, adjusting the cuffs of his shirt. "I already possess your bank accounts, Elias. The money is gone. You are bankrupt."
Vance let out a ragged, humiliated sob. He had tried to exploit a perceived weakness and had been systematically dismantled by an intellect vastly superior to his own.
"You have two choices," Nathaniel stated, stepping closer. "You resign from your office tomorrow morning, citing a desire to spend more time with your family. Or my men will carry you out of this room in pieces."
Faced with absolute, unavoidable destruction, Vance frantically agreed to the terms. His hands shook violently as he signed the digital contracts Silas placed before him, legally transferring tens of millions of dollars in pristine, legitimate real estate directly into Alma’s charitable trust. The federal prosecutor was completely stripped of his power, his wealth, and his dignity in less than ten minutes.
"You are finished in this city, Elias," Nathaniel murmured, taking the tablet back. "My men will escort you directly to the airfield. If you ever attempt to return to American soil, you will not live long enough to see the skyline."
Silas and Dante dragged the broken federal prosecutor and his disarmed bodyguards out of the study, hauling them toward the subterranean exits to avoid the guests above. The room fell into a heavy, ringing silence.

Nathaniel stood alone for a moment, the violent tension bleeding out of his broad shoulders. He wiped a small drop of blood from his knuckles with a crisp white handkerchief. The heavy oak doors opened softly, and Alma stepped into the study. She looked at the shattered crystal on the rug and then at her husband, her beautiful face reflecting absolute calm.
"Is the resignation finalized, Nathaniel?" she asked, a dark, brilliant smile touching her lips.
