Chapter 2

Lily knelt on the hard pavement, her tiny chest heaving with terrified, breathless sobs. The heavy scent of leather and motor oil was suffocating. She raised her trembling hand, the dirty polishing cloth hovering just inches from Grant’s scuffed boot, entirely overwhelmed by the cruelty of the adults surrounding her.
Suddenly, a blur of motion broke through the crowd of passive bystanders.
Fourteen-year-old Adrian Moretti, Raffaele’s nephew, charged forward with explosive speed. Despite his youth, Adrian possessed a fierce, deeply masculine energy. He was dressed in a formal shirt, dark trousers, and sneakers, his fair skin flushed with adrenaline and unadulterated fury. Trained meticulously in boxing and self-defense by the family's enforcers, the teenager moved with the fluid, calculated grace of a seasoned fighter.
Adrian burst into the small clearing and immediately rushed forward. He ripped the dirty polishing cloth out of Lily’s hand and threw it aside with absolute disgust. Without pausing, he grabbed Lily by her small shoulders and pulled her safely to her feet, shielding her fragile body behind his own.
He planted his sneakers firmly on the pavement, placing himself squarely between the weeping three-year-old and the towering, violent adults.
"Don't touch her!" Adrian yelled, his American accent cracking slightly with adolescent rage, his fists clenching tightly at his sides.
Vanessa’s cruel smile vanished instantly, replaced by a mask of offended, aristocratic fury. "How dare you interrupt me, Adrian! Step aside immediately!"
"I said, don't touch her," Adrian repeated, his jaw setting hard, refusing to yield an inch.
Grant let out a harsh, barking laugh. He adjusted his luxury biker jacket and cracked his knuckles, looking down at the defiant teenager with absolute contempt.
"We have a little tough guy here, Vanessa," Grant sneered.
Grant raised his hand and gave a subtle, sharp signal. From the periphery of the display area, two large rally security men stepped forward. They were massive, white American adult males, dressed in upscale biker clothing that barely concealed their heavy, muscular frames. They moved with silent, menacing intent, slowly beginning to surround the teenager.
"Look at the little hero," Grant mocked, his voice dripping with sadistic amusement. He pointed a thick finger at the hard pavement in front of his boots. "Kneel beside her, boy. Let's see how tough you are when you're scrubbing the dirt off my soles."

Adrian didn't flinch. His eyes darted between the two massive men closing in on him, calculating their distance and their balance. He knew he was severely outweighed, but his protective instincts for his little cousin entirely overrode his fear.
"Stay behind me, Lily," Adrian whispered over his shoulder, dropping his center of gravity into a defensive boxing stance.
