Vanessa never changed quickly.
Good.
Fast redemption would have been dishonest.
She sent Noah gifts.
He ignored them.
Then she sent a new paper flower.
That angered Isabella.
“Like she can replace his.”
She was right.
Objects are not interchangeable just because they look similar.
Vanessa eventually wrote one sentence without excuse:
I tore something he made because I hated the name he was learning to be proud of.
That was the first honest thing she said.
Isabella kept the letter.
Did not answer.
Months later, Noah asked who Vanessa was.
“Daddy’s sister.”
“Bad lady?”
Isabella thought.
“She did something bad.”
Better answer.
Not turning people into cartoons.
Not erasing harm either.
Noah nodded.
Then went back to coloring.
