Chapter 1

The grand ballroom of the Valenti estate was a masterpiece of vivid, cinematic brilliance. Bright, saturated colors flooded the venue, catching the natural light that streamed through the towering glass windows. There was no hazy yellow tint to the afternoon; everything was illuminated in crisp, pristine clarity. The guests, an exclusive gathering of white American capos, bodyguards, and elite associates, mingled with ease. Their fair, rosy skin caught the afternoon light, and the room buzzed with the sharp, distinct cadence of American accents. At the center of it all stood Domenico Valenti, a fifty-one-year-old veteran Mafia boss whose deeply masculine, intimidating presence commanded the room without a single word. Dressed in a tailored dark three-piece suit, a crisp dress shirt, and polished leather shoes, he checked his luxury wristwatch, the heavy family signet ring gleaming on his hand.

Near the ornate ballroom entrance, three-year-old Livia Valenti twirled in her elegant flower-girl dress. Her fair, rosy cheeks were flushed with excitement, her small cardigan fluttering as she danced in her shiny flats. She was a picture of absolute innocence in a room filled with dangerous men.

"Keep an eye on her, Marco," Camilla Valenti snapped, her voice carrying a sharp, entitled edge. At forty-two, Domenico’s cousin wore a luxurious formal gown that swept the marble floor. Heavy diamond jewelry sparkled at her throat, and expensive rings adorned her fingers.

"She's fine, Camilla. Just relax," Marco replied, adjusting the cuffs of his expensive tailored suit. He checked his own luxury wristwatch, his polished leather shoes tapping impatiently against the marble. "The ceremony starts in twenty minutes."

"I am perfectly relaxed," Camilla hissed, her fair skin flushing slightly. "But this entire event is a logistical nightmare. And the children running around like wild animals isn't helping."

Livia, lost in her own imaginary world, took a stumbling step backward. Her tiny shoulder clipped the edge of a tall marble pedestal standing beside the entrance. Atop the pedestal rested an antique porcelain vase, a massive, fragile relic that teetered dangerously.

"Watch out!" a nearby bodyguard shouted.

It was too late. The antique vase tipped past its center of gravity. It crashed onto the pristine marble floor, shattering into hundreds of razor-sharp porcelain shards. The deafening crash echoed through the entrance, bringing the surrounding conversations to a dead, horrifying halt.

Livia froze, her blue eyes wide with sudden terror.

Camilla moved with the speed of a striking viper. She closed the distance in two long strides, her high heels clicking aggressively on the marble. Without a second of hesitation, Camilla raised her diamond-clad hand and instantly slapped Livia hard across the face.

The violent impact spun the little girl around. Livia dropped to the floor, landing perilously close to the broken porcelain, her hands flying to her stinging cheek.

"You stupid, clumsy little brat!" Camilla screamed, her voice vibrating with vicious, unhinged fury. She pointed a trembling finger at the sobbing three-year-old. "That vase was worth more than you!"

"Camilla, back off!" Marco urged nervously, glancing around the room.

"I will not!" Camilla shrieked, her American accent piercing the silence. "She needs to learn respect!"
