Chapter 8

The return to the main estate was a procession of quiet, heavily guarded triumph. The bright, airy, luminous colors of the mansion welcomed them back, the soft elegant warmth of the cascading crystal chandeliers feeling like a true sanctuary after the damp darkness of the guesthouse.
Elise moved swiftly ahead, her black maid dress swishing as she ascended the grand marble staircase to prepare the master suite. Julian carried Clara in his powerful arms, unwilling to let her weak legs navigate the vast halls, while little Miles remained securely bundled against his mother's chest.
Once Clara was comfortably settled into the plush, ivory-upholstered bed, surrounded by the clean whites of fresh damask linens, the estate physician was immediately summoned.
"Will she make a full recovery, Doctor?" Julian asked, standing near the gilded mirror of the bedroom, his eyes never leaving his wife's sleeping form.
"She is severely malnourished and dehydrated, Mr. Blackthorne," the fair-skinned physician replied, packing his medical bag with careful movements. "But her vitals are stabilizing. With proper rest, nutrition, and a peaceful environment, she will regain her strength. She is incredibly resilient."
"Is there any permanent damage from the trauma?" Julian inquired, his sharply defined jawline clenching as he thought of the four months she had spent in the cold.
"Physically, no," the doctor assured him. "Psychologically, it will take time. She needs to feel entirely secure."
"Will I ever allow her to feel anything less?" Julian asked softly.
He escorted the doctor to the door, thanking him quietly. As the heavy mahogany door clicked shut, Elise stepped out from the adjoining nursery. Her expressive brows were relaxed, and her hair remained perfectly arranged in its neat low twist.
"Miles is back in his own crib, sir. He didn't even wake up," Elise reported, offering a soft, reassuring smile.
"Do you understand that the debt I owe you can never be fully repaid, Elise?" Julian asked, his deep voice thick with genuine gratitude.
"Seeing them together is payment enough, Mr. Blackthorne," Elise replied gracefully. "I will be stationed just outside the door if you or Mrs. Blackthorne need anything during the night."
"Will you ensure that no one, under any circumstances, enters this wing without my direct authorization?" Julian asked, his tone shifting slightly back toward the cold, perceptive Mafia boss.
"Of course, sir. The guards are already in position," Elise confirmed.
Julian nodded, dismissing her with a subtle, respectful tilt of his head. He walked back to the edge of the massive bed, sitting down gently on the mattress. He reached out, his heavily tattooed fingers tracing the pale, soft line of Clara's cheekbone. The woman he loved was breathing steadily, finally safe in the luminous warmth of her own home.
But the night was far from over. The domestic tragedy had been resolved, but the political fallout of Natalia's treason was a storm that had barely begun to rage. Julian stood up, adjusting his tailored dark suit jacket. He had a fiancée currently locked in the lower levels of his mansion, and a rival syndicate to dismantle before the sun rose.

"Will I not bring hell to the doorsteps of everyone who dared to touch what is mine?" Julian whispered to the empty room.
He turned his back on the peaceful sanctuary, stepping out into the bright, illuminated corridors of his empire, ready to execute the bloody, merciless justice of the Blackthorne family.
