Chapter 10

The sun rose over the Caruso estate the next morning, casting a brilliant, warm, natural light over the manicured lawns. The cinematic brightness of the new day stood in stark contrast to the absolute darkness of the night before. The estate was quiet, the heavy security presence slightly relaxed now that the immediate threat had been permanently removed.
Dante sat in the grand dining hall, drinking a cup of black espresso. He had not slept. He was still wearing his tailored dark suit, the sleeves rolled up to reveal his intricate tattoos. The room, which had been the site of Helena’s horrific cruelty the day before, was now entirely peaceful.
The heavy mahogany doors opened slowly.
Maria stepped into the room, holding Lily by the hand. The three-year-old was dressed in a beautiful, elegant child's dress, looking like the Mafia princess she was born to be.
"Daddy!" Lily smiled, running across the room.
Dante set his espresso cup down and caught her in his arms, lifting her effortlessly into the air. He laughed, a deep, genuine sound that completely erased the intimidating, violent monster who had executed a rival Don just hours prior.
"Good morning, my sweet girl," Dante murmured, kissing her cheek before setting her down in the chair beside him.
Maria approached the table, carrying a silver tray with a plate of fresh fruit and pastries for the little girl. She set it down gently.
"Thank you, Maria," Dante said, his voice carrying a quiet respect.
"You are welcome, Mr. Caruso," Maria replied softly, bowing her head slightly before retreating to the kitchen.
Dante watched his daughter eat, a profound sense of peace settling over him. He had purged the treason from his house. He had destroyed the enemies at his gates. He had secured the future of the Caruso empire for his heir.
But as he watched Lily pick up a strawberry, a soft, urgent knock echoed from the dining hall doors.
Silas stepped into the room. His face was pale, and he looked incredibly tense. He did not look at Lily. He walked directly to Dante’s side and leaned in close, keeping his voice to a barely audible whisper.
"Boss," Silas murmured. "We have a problem."
Dante’s sharp, intimidating eyes narrowed. "Speak."
"The men we sent to drop Helena outside the city limits," Silas reported, swallowing hard. "They were found dead in their vehicle an hour ago. Executed. Professional hits."
Dante remained perfectly still. "And Helena?"
"Gone," Silas confirmed. "But that’s not all, Dante. The bodies weren't just left there. They were posed. And one of them was holding this."
Silas placed a small, plastic evidence bag onto the mahogany table. Inside the bag, stained with blood, was a small brass service bell.
Dante stared at the bell. His sharply defined jawline tightened. The Morettis had been a distraction. Helena had another ally, someone far more dangerous, someone capable of executing his elite guards without making a sound.

"Double the perimeter," Dante whispered, the lethal, terrifying Mafia boss returning in a flash of cold fury. "And prepare the men."
The war wasn't over. It had only just begun.
