Chapter 19

The hospital wing was a fortress. Dozens of Vanguard Tactical operatives locked down every corridor, while federal agents processed the captured Serpent mercenaries. Inside a secure recovery suite, a surgical team finally restitched Emma’s torn abdomen. She lay in a fresh hospital bed, heavily medicated but completely awake, her eyes never leaving Ethan, who sat beside her holding newborn Lily. Carla sat in a chair by the window, cradling Noah, rocking him gently to sleep. "How deep does it go, Ethan?" Emma asked softly, the pain medication making her voice float. "The coiled serpent... what is it?" "It's a shadow financial syndicate," Ethan explained, his expression grim. "They manipulate global markets, fund private wars, and control high-level politicians. Richard owed them fifty million dollars in gambling debts. They told him that if he sabotaged my plane, they would forgive the debt and help him seize the Walker estate." Emma shuddered. "They used him to get to you." "Yes," Ethan nodded, gently adjusting Lily’s blanket. "But before the flight, I discovered their encrypted ledger hidden in Richard's offshore accounts. I downloaded it to a secure drive. When the plane's hydraulics failed, I knew it wasn't an accident. I bailed out over the ocean, letting them think I was dead so I could decode the ledger from the shadows." "And Victor?" Carla asked quietly. "Victor was their prime cleaner," Ethan replied. "When they realized the ledger was missing from my private safe, they panicked. They knew I wouldn't leave the files anywhere vulnerable. They came for the twins because they thought I would trade the decoded ledger to get my children back." "Will they stop now?" Emma asked, reaching out to lace her fingers through Ethan's. "I transmitted the decoded ledger to the Director of the FBI and Interpol twenty minutes before I landed on the roof," Ethan said, a fierce, triumphant smile touching his lips. "Their accounts are frozen. Their leaders are being arrested across thirty countries as we speak. The Serpent is dead." Emma finally let out a long, shuddering sigh of relief. The nightmare was truly over.
