Chapter 5

The air in the grand ballroom was electric, vibrating with lethal potential. The clean whites of the table linens and the slightly warm golden ambiance of the room felt surreal against the sudden explosion of violence. Richard Sterling, mistaking Elena’s silence for submission, let out a harsh, breathless laugh.
"You don't have the stomach for this, Elena!" Richard shouted, his American accent ringing out across the hall.
Fueled by his own misplaced confidence, Richard swung again. He drove a heavy, looping right hook aimed squarely at her jaw, fully intending to knock the young Mafia boss to the polished marble floor and claim his dominance in front of the entire syndicate.
Elena’s reaction was terrifyingly precise. She did not attempt to block the heavy blow. Moving with the blinding, fluid speed of a seasoned fighter, she seamlessly slipped her head to the outside, allowing Richard’s fist to sail harmlessly past her ear.
The missed punch pulled Richard’s body forward, throwing his entire center of gravity off balance and leaving the left side of his face completely exposed.
Planting her high heels firmly onto the marble, Elena rotated her hips and drove one explosive, devastating counterpunch straight across Richard’s face.
The heavy family signet ring on Elena’s right hand connected with the fair, rosy skin of Richard’s cheekbone with a sickening, resounding crack that echoed like a gunshot in the silent room.
The sheer kinetic force of the strike lifted the forty-three-year-old man entirely off his polished shoes. His eyes rolled back in his head instantly. Richard spun violently backward, completely out of control, his arms flailing uselessly as he was launched across the floor.
He hurtled directly into the massive, freestanding champagne-accessory tower that stood near the edge of the dance floor.
The impact was catastrophic. Richard crashed into the heavy metal structure with the force of a wrecking ball. The tall tower buckled inward, groaning with a loud, metallic shriek.
Padded bottle sleeves exploded from their designated slots, flying through the air like shrapnel. Heavy, empty silver ice buckets tumbled chaotically across the marble, clattering loudly as they bounced toward the terrified guests. Large, polished silver serving trays flipped outward, spinning across the floor in a dazzling display of reflected chandelier light.
Richard crashed entirely through the collapsing lower frame of the tower. He hit the ground in a tangled, groaning heap of twisted metal, scattered ice buckets, and rolling serving trays. His tailored black tuxedo was covered in dust, and blood was already pooling from the deep laceration on his cheekbone. He lay utterly incapacitated, his reign over before it even began.

There was no dialogue. The overwhelming, brutal reality of the violence silenced every single person in the room. The white American guests stared in wide-eyed horror, their phones still raised, having just captured the absolute physical dismantling of the senior Mafia associate by a woman in a gold evening gown.
Elena stood in the center of the wreckage, her breathing perfectly controlled. She slowly lowered her fist, flexing her fingers to ensure the heavy signet ring sat comfortably. She did not look at the bleeding man buried in the champagne accessories. Her cold, sharp eyes immediately shifted, tracking the woman attempting to flee the scene.
