Chapter 4

The silence in the atrium stretched, pulling the tension to an agonizing, brittle breaking point. The cinematic lighting offered no shadows for Domenic to hide behind. The elite donors and hospital staff stared at the older cousin, the realization of the massive, orchestrated kidnapping plot settling over the room like a heavy shroud.
Domenic straightened up, rubbing his wrist, a desperate, cornered glint replacing the arrogance in his eyes. He looked at the two bodyguards, his jaw clenching.
"This man is clearly delusional from the medication," Domenic announced loudly, his voice echoing across the marble floor. "He is having a paranoid episode. Secure the chair. We are leaving immediately."
The two bodyguards stepped forward, their massive frames casting dark shadows over the wheelchair.
"If either of you lay a hand on this chair, I will ensure your families receive your remains in very small boxes," Leonidas stated softly, his dark eyes fixing on the bodyguards. "Do you truly believe a single signature on a transfer document outweighs the loyalty of my tactical teams?"
The guards froze. They were mercenaries, paid well by Domenic, but they knew the reputation of Leonidas Ashcombe. They knew that if the coup failed, the retribution would be absolute and merciless. The hesitation in their stance was all the answer Leonidas needed.
"Evelise," Leonidas commanded, turning his attention to the stunned nurse. "Call hospital security. Lock down every exit. Do not let anyone leave this building with a patient file bearing my name."
Evelise didn't hesitate. She grabbed the radio clipped to her scrubs. "Code Yellow. Lockdown all main and service exits immediately. We have a confirmed identity breach in the atrium."
"You arrogant fool," Domenic hissed, stepping closer, brandishing the thick transfer folder like a weapon. "You have no idea what you've just done. The northern families backed this play. They are waiting outside right now to collect the 'John Doe'. You are trapped in here, Leonidas. The hospital is surrounded."
"Are they waiting for a John Doe, Domenic, or are they waiting for a corpse?" Leonidas asked, his voice a low, terrifying rumble. "Did you truly believe I would allow myself to be quietly loaded into an ambulance?"
Adelia remained crouched beside his chair, her expressive eyes wide with terror as she listened to the depth of the betrayal. She looked at the heavy leather folder in Domenic's hands. The key to the entire operation was inside that folder—the documents signing away the syndicate.
"Sir," Adelia whispered, her voice barely audible over the rising murmur of the frightened guests. "The folder. It holds the power of attorney."
"I am aware, Adelia," Leonidas replied softly.
"This is over, Leonidas," Domenic sneered, taking a step backward toward the main entrance. "The northern syndicate will burn this hospital to the ground to get to you. You should have let me take you away quietly."
"Should I have allowed a traitor to dictate the terms of my demise?" Leonidas asked, his heavily tattooed hands gripping the armrests of his wheelchair. He ignored the blinding pain in his abdomen, fueled entirely by cold, calculated wrath. "Do you think a locked door will save you from the men I have stationed outside?"
Before Domenic could answer, the heavy glass doors of the main hospital entrance shattered inward with a deafening crash, showering the pristine marble floor with thousands of glittering shards.
Screams erupted from the donors and relatives. The forty guests scrambled in absolute panic, diving behind the modern seating arrangements and reception desks.
Stepping through the shattered glass were six heavily armed tactical enforcers wearing dark combat gear. But they didn't bear the insignia of the northern families. They wore the distinct, subtle crest of the Ashcombe syndicate.
At their head was Marcus, Leonidas's scarred, towering underboss, holding a suppressed assault rifle.

"The perimeter is secure, Boss," Marcus announced, his rough voice carrying easily over the chaos. "The northern transport team has been neutralized in the parking garage. The estate is safe."
Domenic’s face drained of all remaining color. The two bodyguards instantly dropped to their knees, lacing their fingers behind their heads in absolute surrender. The coup was officially crushed.
