Chapter 8

The transfer of the signet ring was an apocalyptic event in the politics of the syndicate. It was an absolute, undeniable declaration that Amelia was the untouchable future of the family, and that Rafael would burn the world to the ground to protect her claim. The bright video colors of the room felt surreal against the heavy, dark reality of the moment.

Amelia looked down at the massive gold ring in her small hand, then up at her father with a brave, understanding smile. "Thank you, Daddy."

Rafael kissed her forehead, then stood up to his full, towering height. The deeply masculine, intimidating aura he projected completely suffocated the remaining air in the room. He turned his cold, sharp eyes back toward the head of the table.

Beatrice was standing frozen, staring at the torn papers on the floor. Her entire grand design had been annihilated in less than three minutes. The sixty-seven-year-old matriarch realized she had severely miscalculated the depth of her son's ruthlessness.

Rafael walked slowly toward her. His polished leather shoes crunched softly over a piece of shattered crystal from the ruined cake table.

Valeria, who had finally managed to push herself up onto her knees amidst the frosting and debris, let out a pathetic, breathless whimper as she watched her brother approach their mother. The arrogant, cruel woman was now completely broken, her formal dress ruined, her cheek swelling with a dark, angry bruise.

Rafael stopped just inches away from Beatrice. The cinematic light cast a sharp, terrifying shadow over his angular face.

"You thought," Rafael whispered, his voice a low, vibrating hum of pure, concentrated executioner's wrath, "that you could orchestrate a coup in my own home."

"I am your mother, Rafael," Beatrice stammered, her American accent trembling as she desperately tried to play her final, pathetic card. "I gave you life. You cannot touch me."

Rafael looked directly into Beatrice's eyes. The charming, sophisticated host was entirely gone, replaced by a monster forged in decades of street violence.

"You are a liability," Rafael stated, his voice completely devoid of any familial warmth or mercy.

He leaned down slightly, ensuring his words pierced straight through her aristocratic defenses.

"You have 5 minutes to pack your things," Rafael said. His delivery was quiet, measured, and lethally absolute.

Beatrice freezes entirely. The color drained completely from her fair, rosy face, leaving her looking sickly and translucent. She opened her mouth to argue, to demand respect, but the sheer, unadulterated terror radiating from her son paralyzed her vocal cords.

On the floor across the room, Valeria goes pale. She realized the banishment applied to her as well. They were not just being asked to leave the room; they were being stripped of their wealth, their status, and their protection, exiled from the empire they had tried to steal. The absolute, terrifying reign of Rafael Castellano was unquestionable.
