Chapter 13

The phone became evidence of something else too.
Not a conspiracy.
A habit.
Camille had recorded herself constantly.
Short videos before dinners.
After arguments.
While choosing jewelry.
Talking through what people “really meant.”
I watched enough to notice a pattern.
She narrated everyone.
“Elena is jealous.”
“Tessa is insubordinate.”
Nico is distracted.”
“Staff resent me because I demand standards.”
Every conflict already had a conclusion before the other person entered the frame.
Camille lived inside interpretations.
That explained how she justified the refrigerator.
By the time she placed Mira inside, she was not seeing a baby.
She was seeing proof Elena was unstable.
Narrative had replaced reality.
I stopped watching.
There was no secret mastermind hidden in the later recordings.
No bigger boss.
No final betrayal behind Camille.
Good.
Sometimes one person’s fear is enough.
I preferred that truth.
Mafia families make a mistake when they assume every terrible act requires a grand conspiracy.
Sometimes ordinary insecurity plus unchecked authority does the job.
I deleted nothing.
Not yet.
The raw recordings were copied and secured because the people Camille manipulated deserved to see context if questions remained.
But I refused to circulate them as entertainment.
Elena’s worst moments were not family property.
Neither was Mira’s distress.
I told the inner circle:
“What you needed to know, you know.”
One cousin asked:
“What about the rest?”
“None of your business.”
May you like
That was that.
Privacy returned to the people the camera had taken it from.
