Chapter 7

The suffocating tension in the grand ballroom was palpable, a heavy, physical weight pressing down on the pristine gathering. The bright video colors of the decor—the crisp white linens, the sparkling chandeliers—felt like a grotesque, mocking backdrop to the dark reality of the Mafia underworld.

Nico Bellandi bent down with slow, deliberate precision. His tailored dark three-piece suit pulled taut across his broad shoulders. He ignored the folded handwritten note for a moment, his large, powerful fingers closing around the small, plastic-wrapped black USB drive.

He stood back up to his full, imposing height.

Vivia watched him quietly, clutching the torn fabric of her mother's dress. "Is that Mommy's secret, Daddy?" she whispered softly.

"Yes, sweetheart," Nico murmured, not looking away from his sister. "It is Mommy's secret."

He held the small black drive in his palm. It weighed practically nothing, yet it held the power to detonate his entire criminal empire. He slowly turned the piece of plastic over in his hand, the heavy gold signet ring on his finger catching the bright sunlight.

Then, he looked directly at his sister.

Marcella was still pinned to the floor by Rafe, her luxurious wedding gown soaked in champagne and covered in blood from her scraped palms. She was hyperventilating, her blue eyes wide with unadulterated, paralyzing fear as she stared at the drive in her brother's hand.

"Nico, you have to understand the pressure I was under," Marcella babbled, her voice a rapid, desperate stream of consciousness. "She was asking too many questions! She was looking into the offshore accounts! She was going to go to the federal authorities and ruin the family! I had to protect our legacy!"

"Our legacy," Nico repeated, the words tasting like ash and venom in his mouth.

He stepped closer, towering over her. The deeply masculine, terrifying aura of the Boss expanded, completely suffocating the room.

"You mocked this dress," Nico said.

His deep, raspy voice was incredibly quiet. He spoke slowly, with those terrifying, controlled pauses between his words. His volume was so low it forced the entire silent room to strain to hear him, making every syllable sound measured, cold, and profoundly lethal.

"You slapped my daughter," Nico continued, his eyes devoid of any human empathy or mercy, "because you claimed... it was garbage."

Marcella shook her head frantically, unable to form a coherent response.

Nico tilted his head slightly, his gaze piercing straight through her cowardly soul, stripping away the last remnants of her aristocratic facade.

“You never feared the dress,” Nico stated, the absolute, deadly truth ringing clearly across the ballroom. “You feared what she sewed inside.”

Marcella goes completely pale. The color drained entirely from her lips, leaving her looking sickly and translucent. She realized that Nico saw right through her. Her violent hatred of the tattered dress wasn't about aesthetics or high-society standards; it was driven by a deep, subconscious paranoia that the garment held the very evidence she had killed to suppress.

"I did it for you, Nico!" Marcella screamed, entirely losing her mind. "I did it so you could rule without distraction!"

"You did it," Nico whispered, dropping into a register of pure, concentrated ice, "because you are a monster."
